Singer- Brown Crinkle Finish
 

I just bought this machine at an estate sale for $10, the best I can read the number it is 2547784, I looked it up on the Ismacs site, it says no letter prefix was before 1900, did they have electric machines this far back? It sews, seems a loud, got it oiled up. The case it was in really smelled bad and looked even worse, I had an extra case that I was able to put it in. I'm not sure how the tension works, it has the screw type, I had to use plyers to back the tension off. It has the 66 drop in bobbin case. Anybody familiar with the brown crinkle machines?

There were a lot of older treadle machines repainted (often the "crinkle" finish) and electrified when raw materials were scares during the wars. BTW - I beleive Singer only officially used black crinkle, so most likely the brown is a refurbished machine.

However, if it takes a drop in bobbin, you've misidentified the number, as the Model 66 was not made until after 1900. It should have a letter or two in front of the number.

A picture would be great to help identify the model exactly.

Thanks Cathy, I can email a pic to you, I don't know how to post them here. I'm having trouble with the tension the top seems to be too tight, but no matter where I increase or decrease it stays the same, should the presser foot be up or down when adjusting the tension? or does it matter?

A lot depends on what model you have, so until we get that figured out, it's hard to give other info. I'll PM you my email address and if you send the picture, I'll post it here for you.

Cathy, I did see a little sticker that says it was rebuilt with parts from Sewing machine exchange Birmingham, AL. The number is so hard to read, I even put powder on it to try to make it out.

This is a refurbished Singer 66. I sent you an email with a few more questions. Very neat machine!
