Singer buttonholer

Hi everyone,
I bought an old Singer buttonholer (number 121795, I think) that doesn't use templates. I am wondering what is the best way to clean it, since I have no idea how long it has been since it was used.
Any suggestions?

I'll try, Steve! I've never uploaded a picture here before.

I have Buttonhole Attachment No. 86662, which is practically identical to the 121795, except the black casing is shaped slightly different and there is a tiny finger that holds the material down when stitching. You can take the black lid off, disasseble it entirely but often you don't need to. Mine was fairly clean, very dry and hardly trace of oil at all, and after superficial cleaning and oiling it clicked a long fine on the machine. This is the attachment I like the best, it works well and is very useful.

I like to clean them up a little. I clean the old oil off and reoil between all the moving parts, makes them work a lot smoother. The ones with covers have info in the manual how to do that. There may be a manual on ISMACS or somewhere.

Wow -- why didn't it occur to me to oil it? I guess I wasn't thinking about all those moving parts. Thanks for getting me started!

Yes, ismacs has the manual for 121795 but I can't seem to get it to download.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

I have the instruction booklet but don't remember seeing anything in there about oiling. I'll give it another look.

My instruction book for the 121795, has two places to oil it, a parts list, but no info on taking it apart to oil or anything. I hear they are really great button holers, but I haven't tried mine yet.

This link for the manual dowloads fine here. It shows two pictures for oiling points, each show one side of the buttonholer. The arrows show oil points, the letters are for referances in the description.
