Singer Buttonholer
I got a Singer buttonholer in a pink box today at the thrift store. Can anyone tell me which singers it will work on?

If the correct buttonholer is in the box it's for slant-needle machines (301, 400s, 500s, etc.), part number 489500. It should be stamped "SLANT" where it attaches to the machine.

I think these are are the 1960s version of the buttonholer; the pink box is for slant shanks, the green is as far as I know for low shanks; which means 15, 66, 99, 128, 201, Featherweights,... I have been looking for a buttonholer with cams too, I might go for this one if it's nice.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it looked like it would fit the slant's, but I wasn't sure. I also have the old dark green one, it is older than the pink one, the buttonholer is black, I don't know which machines it works on either. Thanks, again.

Would you like us to tell you?
Oh, OK, I will. The dark green "treasure chest" case (and less common, the black) are for low shank. The maroon version is for slant machines. |
I like to have this sorted out, I'm looking at them on fleabay :- )

Mickey2 and Manalto are correct. Unless someone has messed with the cases, green or black is always for low shank and the pink or maroon are for slant. The oval green or rosy pink cases were later editions of the Singer buttonholer and the attachment itself was a beige colour (plastic) while the older models in the rectangular cases are made of metal. The buttonhole cams are all interchangeable. Some of the deluxe buttonholers made for the Singer Touch and Sew series in the late sixties had plastic green and biege and brown cams.

Thank you so much.

If it's like this one and hasn't been switched out, it's for slant shank machines: 301, 401A, etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Singer-Sewin...QAAOSwBahUziyO I've heard them called the Jetsons case. It comes in a green version for low shank machines too. No affiliation with seller, just the first picture I found. Rodney |
