Singer Fashion Mate

A friend just gifted me a vintage Singer Fashion Mate machine. From my quick look on the internet it seems to be a model 237 but that may not be correct as this one is set up for cams (which are not present) and the pictures I saw looked like straight stitch only machines. I'm guessing it is from the 70s???

Question - where would I find the serial number plate? Did not see one anywhere.

Will need to find out which bobbin it uses and figure out how to fix the control knob on the right hand side which is no longer connected. And of course it needs cleaned up.

All of that will have to wait til I get back from Colorado.

Need to take a picture.

The model number and serial number is usually on the underneath side of front of the machine. Hope she cleans up okay.

It is NOT a 237 - which I think is a wonderful machine!

The Singer Fashionmate 237 is a zigzag machine with 3 needle positions and goes forward and backwards. Some of the models can drop the feed dogs. Some can't. There is a knob on the right hand side of the base for that function - if it is there.

The 237 does not have cams.

Looks like you have a Fashion Mate 360, and yes, it takes cams. Look to the upper right front where it says Fashion Mate. Now look just below and to the right of that and see the model number. I cannot tell you anything else about it.

Now I know why it looks so familiar. Go to possumjimandelizabeth.com and look for their review, plus photos of all the attachments. Their site is the only place I found this information. Getting to the innards was frustrating, it went back in line to wait for another time.

Here's what a Singer 237 looks like. My machine is treadle powered, the motor was broken. I like having a zig zag treadle machine.

Thanks for the heads up on the model #. It wasn't on the front of the machine like I expected. Still need to find the serial # and possibly a repair manual. My primary concern is the main control knob on the right hand side being partially disconnected. But working on it will have to wait awhile.

i think thriftyfarmgirl might have parts. also check the inside lip under the machine for the serial number that may be stamped there. i think it most likely is stamped in front just under the lip, really just look around the inside lip that rests on the table. it may be faint.
