Singer Merritt 2404
1 Attachment(s)
I received a Singer Merritt 2404 found in a house someone was working on. It seems to have a lot of cams for stitches. Is this machine worth checking out to see if it works? Probably from 1990's I think. It is dusty and a little dirty but looks good. Should I work with it ?

IMHO, all free machines are worth checking out! Here's a link to the manual: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/down...c14c7a8356.pdf. Not one of Singer's classics, but looks like it would be a decent machine.

I have one similar...sort of...and it has been a real work horse. :) I suggest cleaning it up, and seeing what it can do.....

Free is good. Check for broken plastic parts

Oh, yes, it is worth cleaning and oiling and checking it out. Does it have elec cords and foot feed? I love to get them.

I picked up one about a year ago. It was in great shape and worked on day one. On day 6, it quit:thumbdown: and figuring I had nothing to loose, I opened it up. The Merritt was made around 1980 and was produced in the Singer factory in Brazil. There is a nylon gear located behind the reverse mechanism that broke a few teeth off the metal gear holder. I found the gear on e-bay and fixed the unit:) About 2 months ago, my sister asked if I would donate a machine to an organization that teaches children and young adults the skill of sewing. I readied the 2404 with the case, cams and original owners manual and I understand it is being put to good use in it's new home.
