Singer Model 115 Tiffany/gingerbread decals
1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone tell me what I need to know before I find a new home for this machine? Would a collector be interested or should I just donate it to Salvation Army? Serial #G7295311. Singer serial # lists give me a "birthdate" of 8/28/19
I'm new to the Quilting Board so forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly. I've just been reading some past posts and there are some very knowledgeable (and generous) people in this group. I'd appreciate any advice. |
I've been on here a while and wondered if you could be right about the 115 designation. You are I just hadn't run across one ( yet)
Here is some info on them. https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...e-t216990.html I would guess someone here would be interested. Welcome, and you are doing fine. |
Thanks - that was a very informative link. My machine matches the 115 photos exactly, except for a second, smaller metal disk on the bobbin winder that I expect has something to do with the auto shut off? Mine has a spoked wheel, no motor.
Your 115 has a mounting boss and screw for a motor or a handcrank under the handwheel. That gives more options. Yea.
I'm sure someone out there are looking for 115, because of the rotating bobbin function. They are few and far between compared to a regular 15. The job would be to reach the person who is thinking about this model.
If you know of anyone in the San Diego area, let me know! I'd be so happy to find a collector who would value this beauty.
Crumbs, I wish I lived closer! I love those decals and being rare it's on my wishlist. I nearly got one a couple of months ago off CL for $30, but someone called the seller five minutes before me and got it.
To confirm it is a Singer 115, we would need to look at the bobbin case.

I'll post a few more pics. Let's see who she really is! The first letter of the serial number is very hard to read, but a magnifying glass shows it is "G".
OMG those decals are beautiful. I don't know about different models I just know what I like. This one I love.
Your 115 is one of 10000 authorized Aug 28, 1919. That is a very nice machine.
Yep, definitely a 115. You can tell by the bar that comes across from right to left.
I love these decals, mainly because my grandparent's Singer 15 has them. |
Is that Mother of Pearl??? It sure looks like it in the pictures.
Editted to add: I guess not. I looked at the first pictue zoomed in for a close-up and the decals on the body look the same. Oh, nevermind... |
So she is a 115. Now I just need to find a collector in the San Diego area. She needs to go to a good home!
It doesn't have to be a collector. this model is as far as I know regarded equally as good for FMQ as a regular 15, and quite a few of us has taken one if these old straight stitchers into regular use. The flatbed and smooth running parts make them a joy to work on and they are very capable for most jobs. If more people new how good they are they would be taken into use again more often. I have a simpler looking machine, but it's very easy to fall for the more elaborate decals too.
Do you do FMQ on a treadle?
Well, some do and have developed this fantastic feel for the needle, foot and hand movements. There's quite a few youtube videos on it. I have a motor and pedal on my 201, and I don't do much freemotion, but have managed a bit of test stitching and a bit on smaller items. I now and then sew clothes like jackets and trousers when I have the time and find a nice fabric I like. The 15 and 115 are considered easier for FMQ. The bolt and mount under the hand wheel on your 115 takes a regular Singer motor bracket and if the bobbin case is still there it's usually easy to get it running again.
Good info! Someone will want this machine, I'm sure. Thanks.
Someone does, but shipping to WI is too pricey. Sigh...

To answer the FMQ question, I just wanted to say I FMQ on my 15-91 and love doing it. I haven't tried FMQ on a treadle yet, but a few quilters here have. They have described it like the patting your head and rubbing your stomach trick! It can be done but you have to treadle like billie-ho! |

How much would it cost to buy the machine?
You can make an offer. All I know about value is other models listed on Ebay, so you may want to check that out, too. I can tell you she sews great using handwheel (no motor). I had her sewing in a treadle cabinet a year ago. All parts are there and original: bobbin case, thread winder. Decals are almost perfect on the bed and the front. There is one area of the "Singer" decal on the back (about 1/4" x 1/2") that is worn away. |
That's a nice 115. I'd pay $100-$120 if it was local.
