Singer Model 15
 

I just got this today, I know it is a Singer Model 15 but can't find a serial # to find out the date. Is there anyone out there that can tell me how to find out with out a serial#. I am posting some Pic's. Her name is "Mattie"

Mattie is pretty! She's a reproduction, and a nice one at that. :) You should find the serial number on the underside, near the needle plate.

it's not a singer,, it's a clone,, look at the top of the arm singer say The singer co , your say singer co, the colors are wrong, The serail number is under the base,, on the bottom ...

Well go figure. I thought it was in too good of shape to be an old Singer, lol....She is still beautiful. I knew it was like a Model 15. I have one Clone but it does not say Singer anywhere on it. I know this one has Singer stamped into a part under the base. I know the Cabinet is not from China. I have one of them too. Believe me they aren't much, lol...I also thought the decals were off but I have never seen one in very good shape either. Thanks everyone, now I know.

I’d say it is a Singer machine, just not an old or vintage Singer machine.

I just picked up one of those also --- brand new and not even oiled (for Heaven's sake). Mine is in a bentwood case and weighs a ton. Pretty take off of the Sphinx decal and I found out that they were manufactured in the 90's as Singer's way to try to generate interest in the sewing machines. Ladies didn't care all that much for them as they were sooooooo heavy so production was halted. They are not nearly as well made as the vintage machines but at least they are all metal (except for the plastic knob that lowers the feed dogs) and sew a reasonably good stitch. I paid $50 for mine and am happy with the purchase ........... have not seen them advertised anywhere (even on eBay) so had nothing to base price on. I remember someone telling me some time back that they sold for $299 back in the mid 90's when they were first introduced but I have no way to substantiate that. Charlee ------- do you know?

Even if she's not vintage.... she's still pretty.

John, it IS a Singer...but not vintage. This is one of the reproduction machines. :)

I've only seen pics of those machines. I'd love to see one in person. I'd love to get my hands on a new never used one even more. As if I needed another machine ......... :(

my friend has that very same machine,, ofcourse all I know is what I read on the net... according to THEY, if it does have the word The in front of singer it's a clone/reproduction.

In photo's only I have seen three different Sphinx decals used, this one, one where it's a females head green back ground, one with a males head, but he's looking at you

If I find one, I'd buy it without blinking a eye.. I'm a long ways from being a purist, if I get a machine that so bad it needs paint it will come back looking like a Bug..

Joe . when you do see one you'll be shocked at how good they do look, some how I don't think way back when a singer ever looked this nice...

I've seen some really almost perfect Singers and I will say they did look that good .... way back when.

It's just that most of them have been used a lot rather than stored in a cool dry place, and show it.

I have one just like Mattie...she came in a box with all the info and the prefix was "CH"...for China! But, she's pretty and I don't care where she came from, she's at home with me now! And you're right, the decals are a little off but they are pretty as well.

That's a Singer reproduction made in the 1980s in Taiwan, one of the "NL-" machines.

I know as a Kid I saw new singers, but who cared back then, now I really wonder what a new black and gold machine did look like ,, as far as the dept in the color and sprakle in the gold

the facts are we're not collecting these because of who made them, but the joy they bring to the eye..

Mine is NL-K 8017090 and I was told (by a Singer rep) that it was manufactured in the mid-90's. Supposedly the "N" prefix signifies "Nostalgia series". Enjoyed your blog, Vintage.Singers --- lot'sa interesting information in there.

I know the Lady bought this in 1995 from a Singer Store. It was for Her mother. She loved it and sewed on it for 7 years then she passed away. It was stored for 10 years in a beautiful home. It is in a old cabinet which I love. It sews great. I have a HA-1 15 clone and it looks cheap underneath the machine, but this one looks just like a singer and also has singer stamped under there. Charlee, you are right, it is a Singer just not a new one. I think they are beautiful. If I could find another one I probably would buy it. Suzi, would you like to sell that one, lol....would love to have it. Joy

I hear and read so much on what they are ,, where they came from so on, it all gets a bit confusing.. someone else had one and said they also bought it from singer , my friends has singer on the bottom of the base, but it's not stamped in,, it is cast into teh base...

now that I think about it teh S?N is stamped in,, where charlee says, it also has tag stick on tag,, with teh same s/n and has japan writtern on it along with the S/N..

someone gave it to her over 20 yrs ago, and guess what ,, she had never opened the case , she had it NO BS,, The attic in her 2 story house. LOL.. pretty nice attic.. it's now in a treadle stand .. and getting used ..

afew months ago an add ran 125 $ it was one of those but a hand crank, if it wasn't so far away I would have given her the 125 for it. The repo's I have seen , I have yet to see a dirty , dull finish on one...

this add just started running , I drove right by this place two days ago and wonder what they have, LOL, if you really think about the fact, that it clean, you don't have to do aweeks worth of work on these ,, there price is not all that bad...

Alot of the metal rods and thingies underneath have "Singer" cast into them - not to mention "Singer" is all over the machine. There is no doubt what-so-ever that this is a Singer. Hope more folks who have one of these will post so we can get an idea how many might be out there ........ with this economy we just might be seeing more and more of them hit the market.

It is a reproduction not a clone, the clones aren't built as well as this one. I have a clone and it is made cheap. They are beautiful though. This one is smooth sewing and quiet.

Yep, just like mine, lol...I bet there are more out there, I would like to know who all has one, My Clone says Butterfly Sewing Machine Industrial CO. It is beautiful but is made cheap, it is made in China.

I do have an original # 15 in the original cabinet (belt missing). I dated it to around 1906 or 1912. Of course I can't find the paper now. I was just working on the cabinet today, refinishing it. The machine is another story !!! In pretty rough shape. But your's is very pretty, old or new.

I'm sure you will enjoy mattie-no matter what she is! Her cabinet is gorgeous, btw!

I know this thread is a couple of years old, but I am about to purchase a machine just like this one! Rather excited. I own at least four clones and love them all (more than I love my Singers). This one will help me teach my students about copyright, patents, decal design, and function. Looking forward to sewing on this machine. So glad I found this thread!! How is this machine doing now?
