Singer model #27
I finally got the Singer 27 out of the garage with the cabinet. Well almost. I did get it out from behind stuff so I can bring them out of the garage and put them on the deck for cleaning and a spider check.
My brother saved it from the trash hole and brought it to me about 4 years ago. The lady was using it up until she stopped sewing and couldn't find anyone to take it. So I did. Does anyone here own and use a model 27? It has a really pretty cabinet. I don't think it's an original cabinet though as the machine was born on February 27, 1902. |
I have a firend who absolutely loves her 27,¨ and uses it every chance she gets. In comparison with my 201 she sais it feels a bit sturder and more solid. I have to say my 201 is on the solid side, but I think I will agree with her. You will get used to manual thread release (a lobe on the tensioner). A long bobbin hold less thread than we are used to with round bobbins, but she has found new replacement bobbins on the web and she winds a few in advance for every job. In the beginning you will not mind winding bobbins at all :- )
I have another firend who swears her 28 does the best stop stitching and behaves very well with the buttonholder. I assume a 27 is up to the same standard. She has several vintage machines, and has this 28 dedicated to some types of jobs along side a 201. I'm afraid I haven't owned one my self, but I have noticed the fancy decals and the vibrating shuttle mechanism. |
Look up Muv and fav videos. Lots to learn. She also has a blog. For giggles, when you get the machine going try leaving off the front cover some time so you can watch it make a stitch while you sew.

Not sure if this is a 27 or not. I love the look of it. Haven't sewn with it yet. |
My wife uses this 1894 vintage model 28 hand crank for paper piecing all the time.

Mine isn't that fancy, in fact the paint is peeling off
