singer treadle missing part
 

when i moved the last time, the movers dropped and lost the bobbin cover plate. does anyone know where i can get a replacement and how much i might expect to pay. i want to sell my treadle but don't think it'll sell without the plate... do you think that's correct?

That is a model 66. Models 66 and 99 use interchangeable slide plates.

Make sure, when you go the the "G" list, that you include the "zero" after the "G". AKA, your "G" number is 0943512 not 943512. Your number is very near the end of the G list (July 8, 1924).

What I would like to know, is how "movers" could drop and loose the slide plate? Were they playing with the machine? Or did one of them steal it? I only ask this because that slide plate will not come off by itself, it has to removed by a human.

Mom3 has given you correct info on the slide plate, but I'll add this. Although they fit and work, the finish will not match the original. The replacements finish is more of a brushed silver plating rather than the shiny nickle plate the originals had.

I've got a couple 66's and 99's. One of my 66's came to me missing a slide plate. One of my 99's needs some work so I borrowed the 99's slide and put on my 66. I've come to realize why my 99 was missing it's slide: the spring is weak - won't 'hold' the slide. I tried prying up the spring but that didn't work so I bought a new spring - which is why I suggested a new spring be ordered at the same time. Her spring was probably just too loose or weak to hold the slide.

Sometimes too, the plate comes off, the owner looks at it and goes, "how does this go back on?" and just sets it on top. It would disappear right quick if someone moved the machine that way.

It's possible the plate was found at some point and tucked into "whatever box" they had at the time. It could show up down the road.

ArchaicArcane - Quite true - especially since this slide plate installs from right to left instead of left to right.

Those springs can be tweeked to be tight again.

>Remove itsy bitsy teensy weensy screw, don't loose it.
>Remove spring.
>Clean spring pocket.
>Clean spring.
>Gently bend ends of spring down.
>Reinstall spring.
>Gently tighten itsy bitsy teensy weensy screw, so you don't break it.
>Properly reinstall slide plate.

Done a couple like that, they work just fine.

Don't loose the screw either! The "new" screw (226 subs to something like a 233) doesn't fit very nicely under the slide plate.
