Which Singer's can be treadled?
This thread has be hooked. http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...t268018-2.html
I really really want a zigzag cam machine to treadle. Just have to find one. But which one? So far, this is the list I have made of which ones can be put in a treadle. Are these correct? Are there more? 226 237 224 UI 316 G 411 G 319 |

A lot of the old Japanese zigzag machines can be treadled too.
Here's one of many examples. The key is to look for one where the wheel hangs past the base and the motor is mounted on the back. The Japanese ones that use a Singer sized base are probably easiest. Kenmore machines have a proprietary base that won't fit Singer or most other bases. Rodney |

If you look at Rodney's pic you can see that there is room next to the machine for the belt go around the wheel and to clear the table. That is going to be true no matter what machine you use. That said there are some machines that have a channel for the belt to go through such as a Singer 238 or a Singer 411G. I think you may have better luck treadling something with a good sized balance wheel.

Some of the older Necchi's can be treadled too.
Here's one as an example: http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/fuo/5158573131.html Notice the plug on the front right corner. Remove that for the belt to pass thru. Rodney |
I'm looking, but not many machines around this area and even the rusted boat anchors are thought to be solid gold.
Did not see a single machine today. I have some of my friends looking also. |

Patience and persistence will pay off. Try thrift stores. I don't know how it is in your market but I can usually find decent machines for under $30 in at least some of the ones around here. Count on a couple hours of cleaning and checking things though. But then chances are the Craig's List machines aren't going to be pristine either. Shopgoodwill is another option, just be careful of shipping costs.
