The cabinet and machine look to be in decent shape, but I am no expert and can't tell you what to look for. I do like the pink color. Good luck - I hope it's the one for you!

401 owners say they do not FMQ well because of the horizontal bobbin. Do a search here to see if any posts come up. I use a 301 with its vertical bobbin so I don't know. I have a 404, but it's not clean enough to play with yet.

You don't need parts to FMQ, just a darning foot and the manuals are available online if the other machine was a possibility.

I have a 401. I love the different stitches. I mostly use it for zig zag and use my 201 for everything else. I could never get it to FMQ right.

i've been totally geeking out about this machine. the free motion thing is tricky eh? but it does so much so well...i am so hopeful this test drive tomorrow goes well.

fingers crossed!

I hope you love it. My cousin has one that she got when she graduated from high school (in 1965). She uses it all the time, but it really doesn't FMQ very well. I love my 1951 Singer 15-91 for FMQing. Different people look for different things in a machine and I hope you find the perfect one for you!

That is a very good price if it runs good. The cabinet looks well taken care of also. I have one of those that I bought new in 1961, and I just loved it, in fact, I still have it!!
