Some days the bargains seem to be everywhere!

I went out again today for dog food...just dog food. No, REALLY! I just went out for dog food.

After I bought the dog food the thrift store across the street was calling to me. So I popped in and found some books, I as I walked out to the truck I realized I hadn't had breakfast and my sugar dropped all of a sudden so off I went to Jack N the box , I love the egg rolls. It was such a lovely day I decided to drive across town and drop by another thrift which has been my fav place for bobbins. The owner was there this time and he also has the huge building next door and I had peeked in the windows on my way in and saw five sewing machines in the back. ( This building is never open to the public as they use it for a storage facility) I asked the owner if he would take me over to the other building so I could see them. He took me over and I talked him into letting me have two of them for 5.00 each for parts machines. YAY!

Then we walked back to the main building and I went to look for bobbins and such. Look what I came home with! It is dirty and needs a part on the front and new electrical but other than that it is perfect. Decals are awesome. Paint is like new. The table isn't bad and the bench seat is too cute. I paid more than I wanted to but for the table, bench and the machine $140.00 was a good price in my neck of the woods for this particular Singer. It was on my list so now I am down to only two maybe three machines left on the list.

Didn't find any bobbins...:p

Candace 03-19-2014 01:23 PM

Good haul. How do you know the two bottom machines are parts machines? What's wrong with them?

Sunflowerzz 03-19-2014 02:08 PM

There doesn't have to be anything wrong with them sometimes other than cosmetics. The singer is pretty beat up but the Brother might clean up fine. The singer also has a weird free arm system. Not really even a free arm. The dials are beat up, paint is chipped all over and there are other things also you can't see in the pics, but sometimes I just have to take the least of two good machines to make one a really great machine. Then the one used as a parts machine may sit awhile until another parts machine comes along to make it the good one. It is just my system. Works for me.

Kind of like going to the store "just for a loaf of bread" and spending a $100.00. Great looking machines!

KLO 03-19-2014 03:38 PM

I originally owned a Singer with that kind of free arm. My dh bought it for me back in the 70's as a Christmas gift. It finally bit the dust when some of the plastic parts inside broke and I couldn't find replace parts. Gave it to my local machine repair guy to use for parts. Probably wouldn't do that now. I would ask you guys what to do instead.

Sigh. I always want to go in the "other" buildings. Nice haul!

What is the 15 missing? Oh! the thumb screw?

Rodney 03-19-2014 04:37 PM

Nice finds. That 15 looks like it's in good shape.

Yes Rodney she seems to be in very good condition just really dirty. The cabinet is in nice shape too. I may have done a No No but I couldn't resist. I replaced her front plate and her inspection plate with ones from a MW Signature because I just love looking at the shamrocks on them. I replaced her bobbin wheel rubber ring and the thumb screw, I will replace the plain fed dog cover with a graduated one, add a FMQ foot and I would love to add a chrome light housing to her and I think I have one laying around here somewhere. Then she will be finished and all beautiful. :D

csharp 03-19-2014 05:47 PM

Oh, you have made her bright and shiney...Good job.

Sunfowerzz, Poor Little Sunflowerzz. She went to the store to buy dog food and came back with feed dogs, 3 of them, with whole entire sewing machines attached! :)

Sunflowerzz, you would be a hoot to visit!

But your guest room can't be comfy at all. There are spool pins under the pillow, feed dogs beneath the mattress, sewing machines lying about to stub your toe on in the middle of the night....

mary705 03-20-2014 07:16 AM

good haul, and love the dog. Is it a mastiff?

The S with the brown front ----- looks like mine. Is it a 778? If so you may want to refurbish it. Great machine was top of the line back in 1976.

Thanks guys! Daphne was a rescue. Deemed unadoptable and was scheduled for euthanasia. We took her. She is Wolf, Husky and Bernese Mountain Dog. She has webbed toes and very thick hair on her toes. She catches gophers and digs better than a backhoe.

I think it is and it may be one I can get up and running. I always see if they can be made whole before I deem them parts machines. I still have to learn about all of the different touch and sew models. I know I have a Golden II I just picked up also.
Not sure what the 'golden' part means?...

i'm so jealous.
wonderful finds!

My Max is half husky and can dig like that. He gets carried away and all blissful when he starts digging.

Blissful, yep that's it. Also part of the reason she was given up. She knows she can be a dog in the orchard and dig away but we have asked her not to dig on the upper terraces. Well, she tries..LOL

Thank you for the compliments and I am sure Daph would love to provide the fence holes but only if they were over gophers. LOL I really hate when she gets one, she plays with them like a cat does a mouse. Poor things. Daddy encourages her, says that's my girl get those nasty gophers, so I can't confuse her by stopping it but I do try to distract her with a treat then go and grab the gopher and drop them over the fence. :( Shhhh Don't tell daddy.

cathyvv 03-20-2014 01:38 PM

Seems you're like me - easily distracted!

Lol, Our Huskies do the same with our gophers. They have kept the population completely under control for 3 years now! When they try to come up in to the back yard the dogs go nuts and drive them back to the front yard.

We get the same thing, folks see this sweet goofball and are SURE she is a wolf...

Beautiful dogs. Glad to hear your reply Steve, I thought Daphne took after her Husky side more than the other two.LOL She also plays very rough, I am always bruised and not because she is mean at it she is just so intense in everything she does. Keep away is NOT fun with her because she will plow right through you and knock you down to get it, whatever it is. Are your huskies feet and toes really strong? She grabs with these feet and wraps her big old toes around and her nails are like, well nails. I dremel them once or twice a month to keep them at a manageable length. She flat refused the clippers. I am a licensed nail tech so don't worry I know how to dremel her without burning.

We raise Rat Terriers and had them dig under a cement pad a good 7-10 feet. Even had a female about to whelp get in hole and I had to lay under steps in sand with a hose and keep quirting a little bit and calling before she came out. I was covered in sand but she was able to have pups with me there. Had one hole I kept waiting for chinamen to come out of. But they do have such fun. Our Golden is not as bad a digging.

Sunflowerzz 03-21-2014 02:24 PM

OHHHH puppies!!!! LUV ME SOME PUPPIES!!!

tropit 03-22-2014 01:17 PM

Dogs stealing some thunder, once again...Love all the pix! Daphne has a mug, that's for sure. Whatta beauty! The Husky looks so happy and playful. The pups are gorgeous. The duo on the doggie bed are precious. My 3 amigas (1 pitty, 2 sister dogs that are lab/chow mix,) just came in from a long, country walk. Oh, the things that you can find in the springtime! Heads down in a huddle, butts up, tails wagging. I didn't have a camera handy, but you get the picture.

Don't you just love Thrift stores.....Me too........

Sunflowerzz 03-24-2014 08:00 AM

I have to search them out because sometimes they are on little side streets or they just opened and my fav is the really old couple that live in a tiny town that have been retired for 30 years and just come down and open their store when they feel like it...LOL

Sunflowerzz 03-24-2014 08:08 AM

Oh and I forgot to say that I scrub the dickens out of them first. They have to be squeaky clean. Here is a link to the first one I did in case anyone missed it. The do turn out really nice. I am finishing up Chanel's case today. Will post pics later. It is really cute and I got more creative with it. LOL
