Something else - a Danish sewing machine
 

Although I cannot even begin to have the same command of sewing machine history as some of you out there (my historical interest has hitherto been in everything from musical instruments to architecture, design, society, music etc.) - I thought that my first individual post should be about something, which doesn't show up every day.

I just saw this old sewing machine on a Danish classifieds page, a Theodor Kjølbye (I have neither heard of the name nor the factory before), that to me looks like a Husqvarna Freja and some of the contemporary German high-arm machines with a touch more schwung. I would have wished for some close-ups, but the sellers probably didn't expect the pictures to end up on a specialist American forum ..

Naturally, with the German and Swedish machines inspired by contemporary Singers, there is a good deal of Model 12/New Family design cues (albeit without the fiddlebase) in it, as well.

Hello Crumar, It is a lovely machine and looks 100 per cent German. It would most likely have had a Danish name put on it by the manufacturer for sale by the Danish retailer.
If it's a reasonable price, are you going to buy it?

@Judythesewer: Interesting that you have a small bit of Dane in you - the most exotic I can claim is a female ancestor, who fell in love with a Spanish soldier stationed here by Napoleon around 1808 (two of my maternal grandmothers sisters and children were the last with darker hair/skin and brown eyes).

@Muv - of course, it's an OEM machine. I must have been tired, when I wrote it - the F&R-style porcelain handle is one surefire give-away. They want 125 kr for it (around 20 $/14£), which isn't too far fetched, I gather. I, however, am to stop buying things, which clutter my suffering home further. I already have too many pieces of retro furniture from the 70s (Danish Design/light oak), 10 guitars, 7 synthesizers, a plethora of books.. it would be a nice supplement to a collector of German machines, though.

English is interesting, isn't it? In the context of my last post, I means you, not me. Spoken English doesn't always work in writing.

I've never seen OEM used in relation to sewing machines. They are referred to as badged machines.
