speaking of bobbins . . . test your knowledge
For fun, here are some of the bobbins I have. Most I have machines for, some I have no clue what they fit.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psee42b606.jpg The are all different - either height or width or center hole. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8cb8c0a4.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psf0ab636b.jpg And more bobbins - and shuttles. These are a set of Boye shuttles - in numerical order from left. The riased one is the Domestic that came with my machine, as it's a bit different looking then the #7 Boye that is listed as fitting the Domestic. It does fit, just does not have the closure part. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps7b3b4677.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psbddb4591.jpg #1 Household, #3 New Home, #5 Standard (Favorite), #7 Domestic, http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps10cf40c6.jpg #9 Davis NFV (I want to get a regular VS Davis too), #11 White (New Queen), #13 National (Wards Brunswick), # 15 Singer and Free, http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps5a94e0df.jpg #17 Demorest (don't own yet) #19 New Royal (don't own yet), #22 Eldredge B (in the mail) #25 Florence (don't own yet.) http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps2d62719d.jpg BTW - there are many machines Boye didn't make shuttles for. My goal is to have a machine that goes with each that they did make. |
The only thing that comes to mind here is, "Holy Cow"!

NO! HOLY BOBBIN !! lol

So if I ever need a bobbin or shuttle, I know who to go to. Amazing..... If I took them out of their machines, I'd get mixed up about where each one goes. ..... just saying.... old age sucks!

I'm studying your bobbins, my wife is coveting your fabric .... :D.
I recognized some of the bobbins but not the others. She says she's a fabraholic .... LOL Joe |
Cathy,
Very nice picture reference. The two round bobbins on the left are for a Wheeler & Wilson 9 and D-9, a high demand low supply bobbin. The D-9 is fatter with a hole in the side. I'd be lost on the Boye shuttles if it wasn't for the wood tube with ID number. The Davis Shuttle, Boye 9, is for all their full sized cylinder shuttle machines-- VF and UF. The 3/4 sized machines uses a shuttle not made by Boye. Neat Stuff. Jon |
I knew there were a lot of different bobbins, but never knew that there were that many different shuttles. WOW! Thanks for posting and sharing the information.

the first bobbin came with a set of feet for a WW8 - but I have no clue for sure what they fit
Second is from my WW D9, then Viking (all our vikings take the same bobbin), next is Standard and then White, and then the New Home (pre-Free) I'm not sure on the next one- it is the largest diameter of them all. Next is the Singer 115 (319), Bernina, Singers 15, 66 and 221(301). Not sure what the large plastic one is, it's not as big as the large metal one, but bigger than the White. Wood spool is for the Two Spool, and the one on the end if Pfaff. I also own a New Home -Free rotary that I forgot about, the bobbin looks a lot like the 115, but is slightly larger in diameter. |

I have some of those larger “unknown” bobbins too. I don’t remember where I got them. I have wondered if they’re for an industrial machine of some sort.
