Spool of thread for bobbin!
My friend was given a vintage machine that uses a spool of thread for the bobbin. It works great. Just out of the shop for restore. Now why was that machine not improved upon so we could have one now that uses a spool of thread for the bobbin? I think bobbin spools would be a big selling feature and a new market for thread. It's a treadle machine.

ooh. that does sound like a glorious idea. I have never heard of it, but i'm sure there was some mechanical or other reason for not advancing on it. hmm.

Interesting concept. Reminds me of long bobbins and shuttle of earlier years. The long bobbin often reminded me of a spool of thread. A spool of thread would save some time.

Do you know what make/model this machine is?? I would love to see pics of that!

The 2 spool antique machines were made by a couple of companies I think. You have a treasure!

That would be great but spools come in all shapes and sizes these days so it would be difficult to accommodate all.

My grandmother's friend had the two spool treadle. It worked fine. My grandmother would take me with her to visit and she would be sewing. I remember my grandmother saying it was a special machine because of the spool for the bobbin. It wouldn't be a big deal to make a canister to hold a spool of thread but a big design change would cost too much now for all the machine makers. Thread companies would love it. A new way to market and sell special thread spools.

wow no need to buy all the extra bobbins
