Spring Lottie, a 1910 Singer 66 Lotus

Seems I'm behind posting a couple of machines, so Charlee keeps reminding me. :-)
Here's the Lotus I almost picked up once but didn't. I was looking for a machine with a motor boss to convert to a handcrank for use on the front porch or while dh is wetting a line (fishing, for you non-anglers). Her case was scanky and didn't even belong to her, it was a 'Morse'. Went back again to the mall another day and resisted her again. On our lastest foray to the antique mall (not our local haunt) dh surprised me by picking her up. He said 'she's just too pretty to leave her and I know you'll work your magic on her." <3 Here she is almost done with her cleaning. I didn't mean to give her the go-all the other day but once I got started I couldn't stop myself. She was proving to be a good looker. The bobbin winder is terribly dirty and gunky. It is still off because I had to have a helper getting the screw that detaches the winder unit from the belt cover loosened. I'll get that cleaned up after this weekend. Bridal shower wins. She is missing her slide plate and has one very small spot on her bed's center decal that is silver. The presser foot lever has tiniest bit of rust but other than that, she is in very nice condition. The bobbin area was loaded so the lady was definately used. I should mention I performed a motorectomy on her. The motor and the light had the very, very old plugs (round ones :-( She will be used in a treadle. Enjoy, deb Someday I'll get all the ladies in the vintage and antique enthusiast photos forum. |
She is looking really spiffy!
Where did you get the base for her? Does hubby make them for you? Shari |
she's a real beauty...I wouldn't have been able to leave her behind!

Wow, she cleaned up beautifully. What a pretty lady. I'm glad you rescued her.

Oh, she's gorgeous! Congratulations on having her and on having such a sweet hubby.

She is a real beauty!!

Really beautiful. Lucky find.
|
Nice!!!! :)
|
She is just beautiful!!

Gorgeous little lady, isn't she!!
|
So pretty! Glad you rescued her and gave her a cleaning. Is it easy to convert treadle heads to handcranks?

Hi there Mom3,
She is in a borrowed base for picture taking. My dh makes me the bases for my 'machines in waiting'. I tell you, the man is much an enabler as some of the fine folks on this list. Any chance you hail from ME? Best, d It sure is satisfying to be able to bring a machine back from a rusty end to a running machine though, isn't it? :) Shari (I'm kind of new here & because of your question went on a search to figure out how to put in my location so it should read correctly now.) |
Looking very pretty. Her detail looks great.

I have her twin... all her "blossoms" were covered with gunk and was so pretty when uncovered....years of oil or coal heat I think....they are great machines

Very nice Lotus machines. A Lotus is on my list to add to my collection.
|
So pretty=====glad you saved her.....I am still looking for one.
|
She looks very very much like my 1909 Lotus 66-1. I just love this particular decal, as I think it just looks so elegant. Good work...it took me quite a while to clean up mine, and we also gave mine a motorectomy and she soon will be in a treadle again. She was in one, but now it's gone home....and that's a different long story!! LOL
|
And you say you passed up this beauty THREE times???! Yikes! I would have taken it the first time I saw it. Your hubby is definitely an angel! This is my favorite decal which I will own one day.
Isn't it wonderful to bring these old machines back to life? My hubby recently obtained his grandma's treadle, a Singer 127 with the Sphinx decals. We are still working on her, but the head has already been reconditioned by a professional who brought her back to working condition and removed the motor. Once we're finished cleaning her up, she will live in the guest room where I plan to use her. |
She is beautiful. Also, she was born to treadle.
|
You found a keeper in both the machine and the DH. Congrats!

Hi DonnaQuilts,
For me, I only look to acquire the machines that either currently or will again treadle. There is something extremely gratifying to me to sit at the machine and work it. Having said that, I have, make that had, a hankering to also have one HC. Accomplished that yesterday by purchasing a 128 La Vincendora. Can't wait to clean 'er up, toss the motor and buy the hc. I'm sure she will get lots of porch time and maybe some road trips, too. best, d QUOTE=DonnaQuilts;5136194]She is beautiful. Also, she was born to treadle.[/QUOTE] |
Wow.. She is one pretty lady.. It's funny, but before I really got into this forum, I was using a Singer machine that is green, made in Great Britian, but has no numbers on her, so I don't know what she is.. I was feeling sorry for myself, and was going to buy a machine that has a variety of stitches.. I went to a thrift store, and there was a Singer 99.. Of course she was mine.. Who could resist for $30.. Cleaned her up, and she didn't hum.. she purred for me.. Considering I'm not a fan of cats.. She sounded very pretty.. Went to an estate sale, and there was a Singer 66 in a cabinet.. She got cleaned up, and she purred for me.. Now I want a FW... It's scary.. I'M HOOKED.. Thanks a got guys.. Ughhhh

BTW, if you go to the VSMS Photos thread (sticky at the top of the category) you will find one of your little green machines and you can get the information. I'm guessing a Singer 185. Google that, too, and go to Images and see if that's it. |
