Strange machine seen in the wild
While garage shopping yesterday, I ran across a Singer, supposedly made in 1910. It was the gorilla finish that had been painted. Everything was a mocha choco brown including the badge. Lady said it had never been painted, very sure about that, but seemed strange that the badge was painted too. And it had a Westinghouse motor on it. Her explantion for that was that Westinghouse put all the motors on Singers when they first got motors. I passed since I've already got too many machines needing attention already. She was really selling to someone else that was seemed interested.

Sounds like the seller was very badly informed. I know I would have passed on it also.

I could be wrong (it's been known to happen!! :D ) but don't believe Singer made a crinkle finish until the 40's.... and they didn't make "brown" machines until the 50's, and those would have been the 300-400 series. Why would they make a brass plate and then paint it?
Pppppffffffffffftttttttttttt!! I want some of what she was smokin'!! :D |
I wonder how long she had had the machine.

Yeah, Charlee. And it was in a 50's sort of cabinet with broken hindge. Easily fixed she says. I know I've got a lot to learn about machines, but that just didn't look right.
