Temptation du jour - Supre-Macy

Should I do it? Some part on top appeared to be held on with tape, but the seller took down the photo that showed it - not sure what it is, but it was on top over the square dial.

costumegirl 11-28-2014 09:43 AM

Cool shape! :)

J Miller 11-28-2014 09:54 AM

That thing is ugly ...... I like it :D

Why not, that machine has more character than 10 Singers put together.

Joe

Rodney 11-28-2014 09:55 AM

Neat machine! Sorry, no help talking you out of it.

That's what I like about it! Those curves are great - and all the dials!

Cari-in-Oly 11-28-2014 10:34 AM

Go for it! That thing is so cool looking, even if it doesn't sew it would be cool just sitting on a shelf.

Cari

Macybaby 11-28-2014 10:35 AM

You should get that machine and send it to me - don't you think I should have a "Supre-Macy"?

Yeah, that's the other thing I like about it!

Quincunx 11-28-2014 02:49 PM

Egad! Do those little round thingoes light up? Is M - A 'manual' to 'automatic'? So many questions.

I wonder if the curve underneath is helpful when rolling up something to fit under the arm.

Macybaby 11-28-2014 03:34 PM

It is a seriously neat machine. I'd grab if for sure, for my "dash board" collection, even if it had "issues".

tessagin 11-28-2014 03:39 PM

Looks like it started out as an ugly duckling and you will turn it into a swan. It has the curve of a swan like neck!! I like it!!

Monroe 11-28-2014 04:55 PM

I saw the CL listing several days ago. Not sure what was under the tape. looked like a small cam cover? I say go for it- very cool style!

wesing 11-28-2014 06:16 PM

I love the unique shape on this one. If the price was reasonable I would not hesitate.

zozee 11-28-2014 06:53 PM

It's so cool. The shape, the dials, the color, everything. GET it! You know you want it.

Champanier 11-28-2014 06:56 PM

On my way home with it. I didn't try to run it, since it was already kind of packed up, but the wheel turned easily. The underside says Toyota. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

The owner was a smoker. Any suggestions for cleaning? What should I use on the plastic knobs?

Champanier 11-28-2014 07:00 PM

Zozee, you sound just like the little tempting voice in my head!!! But seriously, it was just too cool!

Rodney 11-28-2014 11:42 PM

Sewing machine oil should cut through the nicotine. It's painted so it's not as delicate as the black machines, you might get away with other cleaning products too. Just test them somewhere inconspicuous first.

Congrats on getting it. It's a very unusual shape and I don't think it's a common machine. Toyota made good machines, I wouldn't be surprised if yours is a good user along with it's neat looks.

What's under the tape that you mentioned?

Still up playing with the new machine! It's a TZ-20. I found a couple identical ones online under different names - Arrow and Stradivaro.

Under the tape is a little door that opens to insert the cams I don't have. Found a photo of them on eBay with a sold machine. Will have to search... But, I did fix the door so it no longer needs tape - just have to clean off the tape residue now.

Lots of cat hair under and in the machine - will try to get it with the toothbrush.

Here are photos. The little chrome rectangle is for pins.

It has many features like my Aussie machine (Pinnock) same cam lid and similar dials, mine is not as curvaceous. Apparently Pinnock was eventually taken over by the Japanese, so it's not surprising there are similarities. If yours is anything like mine it will be a total treasure, my "Jasper" is my everyday machine and is "bomb proof". Love yours!

miriam 11-29-2014 04:03 AM

I LOVE 'bomb proof' machines. It will clean up and you will have a blast with that one. A little 'Awesome' - I think it is oxyclean and you might see clean.

Thanks! So glad to hear Jasper works so well!

Do you have the cams? I found a photo of some that were already sold, but the photo isn't clear enough. I'd like to find them. Can you tell from the photos whether it needs anything else to make the cams work? (My Kenmore has one metal cam that has to be in place for the others to work.)

Macybaby 11-29-2014 06:49 AM

I'm pretty sure this takes the same cams as my White 670. Seems a lot of machines took that style cams. It's got the same small glass cam door.

miriam 11-29-2014 06:56 AM

I bid on some of those same cams on GW and lost - some body paid a lot of money. I have the machine though... GW needs to do a better job of keeping their stuff together.

oldtnquiltinglady 11-29-2014 08:41 AM

I have free roaming cams all over my sewing room; if you will post a pic of what you need, I'll check and PM you.

That's what I was thinking. It looks just like the door on my Ambassador too. Macybaby, would it be possible for you to take a couple good pictures of one of your cams with a ruler for scale? My Ambassador is missing it's cams too. I think the information would help both of us.
Thanks,
Rodney

thank you!

The ones Macybaby posted are exactly what I need. They match the ones I found that were already sold.

Champanier 11-29-2014 11:35 AM

Thanks! It's great to have good photos and measurements. Are these interchangeable at all? I found some with different tops online - vertical ridges rather than the stacked pancake look of these. Any chance they'd fit?

I'll figure out how to post smaller ones!

Macybaby 11-29-2014 01:37 PM

The top part is only to get a grip on to pull them out. Nothing inside the machine touches them at all.

Rodney 11-29-2014 01:44 PM

Thank you Macybaby! Now I know what I'm looking for too. I haven't even messed with the Ambassador since i brought it home. I'm waiting to get a set of cams for it. It will probably be my go-to machine when I need something more than a straight stitch when I do get a set for it.
