tension spring for Spartan
I need to find a tension spring for my little Spartan! I have a hundred springs here and not one is the correct one, several are CLOSE, but not perfect...I don't want to take her apart and try just any old spring either...
anyone have any ideas? |
The tension spring was what was wrong with my Spartan when I bought it rather cheap because it didn't work. Does your machine HAVE a tension spring at all? Mine did and it was not working. I found info to fix it here: http://www.tfsr.org/pub/technical_in...echanism_2.pdf This was the site I found http://www.tfsr.org/publications/tec...achine_manual/ and then tension mechanism was the topic. Use the info for the Singer 99 or 66. I had to follow the directions exactly to get it to work right. It was a little screw on the side of the machine next to the tension needed to be done right. Sew classic might have a spring if yours is blown out - you still have to install it like the instructions.

Thanks for the information and sources on this little machine. I saw one yesterday that needed a new belt and a rubber bobbin winder ring. Are those hard to find and a different size from the full-size machine? This model is very small ... does not look as big as the 3/4 size Singer 99 that I have.
Thanks for any info you may be able to offer. Cathy |
thanks for the info! mine has a spring and it looks like it got hung on something and someone PULLED..it is stretched all out whack!
as for getting belts/wheel rubbers, PM me...I can order those! |
I like those little machines - it is easy to get parts - bobbins are compatible with the Slant-O-matics!!! They make a nice set.

The spring is the same as the one for a Singer 66. Jenny at Sew-Classic will have it.

I am drooling! I saw a Spartan looked in very nice condition in a cabinet that wasn't too bad. But I have a machine in the shipping my DH doesn't know about so I didn't buy it. But I am sure this guy will still have it. It has been there alittle while. I probalby shouldn't, but I'll take my chances.
Boy that was a beautiful machine, and small. |
