Texas Centennial Machine

hrmm. Well, I contacted the seller to ask her if she'd be willing to ship and she said she had one person who may come look at it, but if they don't buy it she's coming up here next week and she would meet me if I wanted it. We shall see...I really like my other 66s and they're a good size for my kids to sew on. Plus I have a spare cabinet for one...

I've never seen one, either, though I know that there are some Featherweights out there with the centennial badge. But at around $3K, they are way out of my league!!! I hope this 66 finds a good home. On another note, I got a green 185 via USPS today which I won on E-Bay. Unfortunately, the machine was dumped in a box with a few pieces of styrofoam tossed in. The case was shattered, the motor mount was completely broken, and the machine is so badly damaged that I doubt it will never sew again. I've asked for a refund. Keep your fingers crossed.

Update re the Singer 185: the seller has offered me a full refund. He was very nice.

It's got to be a pain in the but to make a complete refund. Why in the world can't they just package the machines properly in the first place? Even if they let you keep the machine and give you your money back it's still a bad sale.

You're right -- it's not good. And I've got to box the thing up and return it. But, I've got to say that I've been buying on E-Bay for 10-11 years, and have purchased a number of sewing machines (and scads of other stuff). This is the first time I've had anything arrive in bad condition. So I'll just cut my losses and move on. It was a cute little machine and I'm disappointed that she won't be part of my collection.

Interesting. Serial number in picture dates it to 1926, but it has a 1936 Texas Exposition Badge. Wonder if they just took some machines sitting in inventory and changed the badge to ship it to Texas?

Either that or they sent the Texas Expo badges to the dealers who were selling at the expo to put on their existing inventory. From what I read you were only able to buy machines with this badge at the event.
