I'd hang onto it...I have a tan one too but for some reason the black one is my favorite! I intend to either sell it or give to one of my granddaughter. If you don't feel the "love" for it...then it's best to sell to someone who's looking for one to keep, not to make a profit selling it. It needs o be used not sitting around collecting dust bunnies...

I would hang on to it--you never know and just like your mother in law besides it is small and somewhat light weight. But that is just my opinion.

Truly, no one can make this decision for you. I have a white FW, and I love to use it piecing quilt blocks. My son found it at Goodwill Store for $50, and I wouldn't take $500 for it (I know it's probably not worth that much) because my son bought it for me. I also have a 328K, a couple of Golden T & S 750's, a National Two Spool Treadle, etc. Although I don't use all of them every day, they do get used. If you keep your machine, just a word of caution. Keep it lubricated (not overly so). You don't want it to "freeze up" It would be a good idea to run the machine even if you're not sewing on it.

I love mine and would hang on to it..

People have given lots of reasons to keep it and also some good ones for moving it on out. Here is another slant:

My sister is newly retired and uses a fancy Bernina. She recently acquired a FW and also started sewing in a church group. She said she was amazed at the fact that when she walked into the church sewing room carrying her FW, she could feel her status among the group as a quilter increasing. It seems that people think you are an accomplished quilter when you own and use a FW. Her telling me that tickled me as much as knowing how much she is enjoying her retirement these days.

I would hang onto it and let your grands learn to sew if they so choose. It would be great for piecing or a few scrappy/crazy pieces.

I don't have one - YET-!! But if I did I would hang on to it. Many gals I know use them for sewing classes, retreats etc because they are easy to move about. You're lucky to have found one that was reasonable in price. Out here they are like gold.

FWs may not be for everyone. Know a lady that recently sold hers because she was downsizing.

Personally I feel fortunate to own one for over 20 years now and enjoy using it. Tickled pink w it from day 1 of acquiring it. Sews beautifully and very quiet. Its my weekly quilting bee companion for the last 5 years.

I own several high tech machines now and some are not that heavy yet my go to travel one is my FW.

Some machines I get an instant connection with, some I don't. If I don't get that smile on my face the first time I sew with them, they are outta here. Some of them actually make me frown.

I don't have the space to keep a machine I have that I can't seem to bond with and they would just sit there because I wouldn't use them, best to sell and let someone else love it and use it, and a beige FW can bring you $$$ and then you can do something fun with the money. :cool:

I also have a Janome 6600 professional and a Singer 99k along with several other vintage machines including two Centenial FW's, a 301A, a Singer red eye and a singer treadle that belonged to my hubbie's grandmother.
Love, love love my old machines and use them all on a rotation cycle.

The 99k is a favorite because it was made in Glasgow, Scotland where I was born and brought up :)
