Is There Such a Thing as a $1 Singer Treadle ?

i am jumping for JOY !!! yeheyyy..

sorry about the long story but i am just so excited to share it with you:

i was talking about this treadle on another thread (2 for the price of 1). there was this posting in my local CL about a 1906 Sphinx Treadle. she had it listed at $200. i emailed her and asked if she's willing to give it to me for $80. she replied back and said 'it's free if you can pick-up'. as soon as i see the 'free' word i hurriedly emailed her back saying that i want it and for free i want it even more. never heard a thing. i emailed again like 10 times but nothing. i thought it's one of those listings that you see and heard nothing from. just this morning she emailed and apologized that her internet was down last night. we set up a pick up time at 6pm. got the address and her house is about an hour away from me. got stuck in traffic on the way there and my 1 hour drive went to 1.5 hours. about a mile away from the house my gps couldn't find the destination. i went round and round and as i drove to one street my GPS said 'you've reached your destination'. yeah, you're right gps, where's the house. as i was driving slowly to go back, i saw an opened garage and the sewing machine was there waiting for me. i checked the sewing machine and she looks dirty and neglected. but i sure will fix her. i asked the owner if it's really free and she said 'Yes'. se said she's moving out and just want it out as she has no space. i told her as a filipino, our custom is to give/pay her something so i paid her $1. and she said that works for me. we chatted for a while. such a nice lady. i offered $80 and she could have said yes but instead she said it's 'FREE'. i am surely blessed and will take care of this Singer Treadle more so all because of the kindhearted owner. here is Carole (named after the owner).

WOW! That is the best $1 bargain I've ever seen! You need to start sharing some of that good luck this way. ;)

Beautiful! All you need is the set of drawers for the right side. Fantastic deal.

Thati s a very nice machine and cabinet - can you tell if a stack of drawers is missing from the right side?

Use the funds you didn't have to spend to find the parts to complete the cabinet. I've seen the drawers (if they are missing) and top on ebay quite often. BTW- the Singer lids have the same diagonal crosshatching on them as the front of the center drawer - so that is what you'd look for if the seller does not know what it came off of.

That machine and cabinet is way too pretty not find the missing parts.

Congrats on getting it. The decals look really good. I'd do what Macybaby said and hunt down the missing drawers and lid. I think you'll be surprised at how good it'll look when you're done.

I forgot to mention: I see floor in that garage! You got room for a lot more machines. You haven't even started stacking them yet. :)
