I brought back a similar condition, black 301. Be careful with the TR3 and don't carried away with trying to make it perfect and rub through the paint. Make certain the bobbin case is there. An original replacement may cost you $50+. In the end it is a great stitcher!

I have a featherweight that will probably be a parts machine and it has a bobbin case. Thanks for reminding me though, as I had forgotten that little detail.

The 301 did not come with that cabinet. That cabinet is from an older machine like a 66 or 15-91. They must have retrofit it, make sure the 301 cradle sits correctly.. But even if it does not you can take the 301 out and remove the cradle and still have a fine machine. Most 301's don't have cabinets because they came in a case.

Yes they did. I've seen many black 301s in this cabinet, some with the 60/40 split top and some with the 50/50 split top. I have two of them.

Well I got it. It did not have a bobbin case, so it wasn't as good a deal as it seemed. But, like I said, I have a bobbin case. I'll take photos tomorrow and then again after it's cleaned. The lady also has 2 featherweights that she's close to parting with, too.

I am glad you were able to get it. A few days ago I finished a quilt for my mom by stitching in the ditch with my 301 and it was just lovely to sew with. I am now working on a different project with that machine. Another cool thing that people do not always realize is the feed dogs drop on a 301 too:-)

There is a thread knot in the bobbin area that I have to figure out how to fix. Do I remember that it's totally like the featherweight that you have to take apart to clean out a thread knot?

You might have to but then again maybe not. It depends on how much thread is there and how badly it's jammed up in there. My first 301 had a random issue of skipping stitches. I thought I had cleaned it really well but after checking the bobbin area 3 or 4 times I finally saw some pieces of clear nylon thread behind the base. With some patience, a flashlight and long skinny tweezers I finally got it all out without taking anything apart.

Well, it's really dirty and rusty. Hopefully, I'll be able to fix everything. I need a electrical cord for it. The cord to the controller has to be replaced. It also doesn't have a bobbin case. The clearcoat is compromised. Other than that, it's a great machine. :)

Maybe some day I'll learn to spend a little more to get a little more.
