Thoughts needed on a Vintage peddle Featherweight...PLease
I was at a Goodwill and bought a Featherweight from 1924 in the cabinet with all the feet. It operates manually and needs a new belt.
I paid only $65, so I bought it..... I am a quilter and sew on a Bernina and or a Janome. Should I repair the machine and sew on it or is it for decoration? Not sure about all the accessories. Advise and counsel please..... |
I would fix it and sew on it. Good luck. I just bought a 48 FW....it hangs up on the bobbin so I can't wait to start sewing on her.
|
After servicing, I would certainly sew with it! I have a FW that I use; a 15-91 that I have used but am actually looking to get rid of simply due to lack of space; and my primary machine is a Viking computerized machine. Enjoy that little beauty.

I doubt it's a Featherweight in a table for that price.

If you can get it to sew you should use it. You'll be amazed at the quality of the stitching.

Can a Featherweight even be used in a treadle cabinet? |
could be a Sewhandy. Often mistaken for early Featherhead bait....
|
Now you've got me curious... Rhodim, could you post a photo of your new baby? Thanks :-)
|
yes, looking forward to a photo and I say fix up and use. I got a treadle and it is really fun to sew on. Quiet!!!!

Singer didn't start manufacturing Featherweights until the 1930s. You can check the serial number here http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_...-database.html and see what model machine you have.
Most of the Singer feet for the older machines were interchangeable, so if you have a manual for one of the older machines, the instructions will probably work for this one or you can search the internet for a manual for that model machine. |
