Three for $120

Good gosh, this is like eating potato chips. I think the one is a 15-91. The green is a 185k and the third is a 99. All run, cabinets in pretty good shape. Haven't sewed with them yet.

Boy, they sure are in nice shape. I love the green one's foot controller (never managed to find one of these) and the 15's industrial style spotlight. Noticed the slide plate is missing on the 99 - hope you have it: Replacements are cheap but made in China and obviously poor quality plating.

Cabinets make it great value for $120. Well done!

If you don't have the slide plate you can get an original off ebay from a Singer 66 parts machine. They are not rare at all.

Sideways 09-25-2013 03:15 PM

How wonderful, it's like Christmas morning!! Happy for you!

Mdaniels 09-25-2013 03:18 PM

No slide plate, thanks for the tip on the 66. I will check out eBay. I'm glad these seem to be a good deal, because I could not stop myself. He also had a 401a, thank god I already have a nice one :) . I have some clean up to do, but on first appearance, they do seem in good shape. I don't know much about that green one, but I really like it.

Potato chips, I tell you!

Great machines!

From what I've read here, the 3/4 cabinets are not common, and now you have two of them. This seems like a great buy all the way around. Machines and cabinets are all in nice condition. That 185 looks like it was hardly used.

Congrats on your "new" machines and cabinets! Terrific finds!

Mdaniels 09-26-2013 01:47 AM

Thanks! We have a relatively small home so I am scouting a place to put these small little cabinets. Right now, they are in my studio barn for clean up and repair, but I do not want to store them out there. I am hoping to use these somewhere.

There is a lovely 301 on Craigslist here in a cabinet but they want $450 for it, which seems ridiculous--but I am glad, otherwise I'd be out grabbing it like a new bag of chips :)

nanna-up-north 09-26-2013 05:00 AM

$450??- CRAZY!! But your finds are awesome.... congrats.

CanadianGirl 09-26-2013 05:24 AM

I really love the 185s. Very heavy though...surprising for a 3/4 machine. Very nice haul!

What a great find. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy -My kid refers to my collection as Mom's M&M's and it seems like there are quite a few things those 2 M's could stand for my favorite is Machine Madness : )

BarbaraSue 09-26-2013 08:03 AM

congrats on your finds! pretty machines. Love my 15-91. Machine addiction is my family's word for it. Oh well, everyone has at least one vice in life.

The 15-19 runs like a mad woman! Pretty nice stitch, had it sewing through 4 layers like butter. Love how it sounds, can't wait to get my hands on the other two over the weekend.

Was thinking of going to Chautauqua for the quilt show Saturday morning but am tempted to stay home and play.

What a score! Congratulations!

You are very lucky. I have one of the 185J's (they called them J's in Canada, and K's in the United States--same machine). My elderly mother was clearing out her house and I snagged it before she took it to the church sale. I absolutely love that machine and do most of my piecing on it.

Actually, I was giving my little green machine the TriFlow spa treatment and noticed, in fact, it is a J, not a K--so it is made in Canada. I replaced the belt, it runs nicely. We'll see how it sews this weekend. I'm anxious to try it!

Mornigstar 09-27-2013 03:51 PM

K means Kilbournie Scotland where it was manufactured forgot what "J" stood for. sure someone else has the correct answer

Mdaniels 09-27-2013 05:10 PM

St. John's (for the J) in Newfoundland....maybe?...

Mitch's mom 09-27-2013 05:54 PM

The 185 is the updated version of the 99 which is the 3/4 version of the 66. If you don't believe me take the slide plate off the 185 and put it on the 99. :)

Mdaniels 09-28-2013 02:42 AM

I believe you! Yes, it does fit, I just want both to have covers. I am sure I will find one somewhere.

oregongirl 09-28-2013 08:21 AM

you did good! what sweet machines and nice cabinets - have a fun day playing with them!

Mdaniels 09-28-2013 12:56 PM

I have the two 3/4 machines down out of the shop (not light to move) and have been playing for a couple of hours. The 185 J has a beautiful FAST stitch. It whizzes! I love these old. Machines.

the 99 has some bobbin issues. The bobbin gets stuck, thread doesn't move. I'll start a separate thread on that to see what advice I might get.

tenngal 09-29-2013 12:50 PM

Great find!
