Thrift Store Find
 

We were in Carthage Missouri this past weekend attending a 50 year class reunion for my sister and did some thrift store shopping. I located these singer accessories along with this manual for $8. I wasn't familiar with the number on the manual but managed to move the accessories around in the plastic bag to know that they would fit several of my singer machines. When I opened the bag and looked at the book. Inside was a Davis Machine Warranty Certificate from 1955 and inside the book was a picture of this machine. Does anyone know anything about this machine. I only have the book. I believe this is most of the accessories that would have been with the early singers like the 201, FW and 15-91. I had just missed out on a bid on ebay for a set that eventually sold for $24 so I feel like I made out like a bandit. I didn't get the green box but maybe someday one of those will come along too.

looks like the later set of Singer attachments, so yes, like what would have come with the 201 and 15-91 (missing screwdrivers though) - PLUS you got the adjustable zipper foot.

A picture of your Davis warranty would be neat - Davis was out of business long before 1955, sure it's not 1925?

I believe the Manual is for a National made machine, it takes top clamping feet, so it appears you got three unrelated items, Davis Warranty, National manual and Singer attachments. I think you did very well with your thrift store find!

That manual goes to a very late US made National! Read here about half way down the page or do a 'find' command for "more oddness".

When I bought my Singer treadle, I got the original small green manual. It reads like some other English than the English I was taught in grade school.

I have some of those same feet for my 401.

Nice get. The manual is certainly for a National made machine. I'm almost done getting the Streamliner cleaned up and in a base so I've been looking at a National machine for a while now, plus I just bought another National full size machine off Shopgoodwill for a $1.99 winning bid about a week ago. I really need to get my camera situation straightened out and post some pictures.
Quincunx I find myself referring to Zorba's page a lot for my National machines. It's a great resource.

I wonder if National was using the "New Davis" name on their machines. That's a big reason why you won't find a "name" in the manual, just the model number. That way they didn't have to print different manuals based on the name on the machine.

So it's possible the warrenty goes with the Manual - that would be really neat!

The Davis Sewing Machine Co. went bankrupt in 1924 but National used the Davis name for some time afterwards. I'd guess the the machine itsself was badged "New Davis". According to the Needlebar this is a model 52F:

Nice find, the warranty would greatly interest those researching National.
