Treading an older electric kenmore

Have any of you treadled and old kenmore? this one is pink, and the motor or wiring is gone, it smokes and I'm afraid of it. Model 158.953. Thanks

The problem with newer (than 1950s) machines is that a lot of the hand wheels and drive belt part are encased and it takes alterations to make a hand wheel which allows room for the leather belt. If it's a model that easily adjust to this it's fine. Most treadles are made to turn the hand wheel anti-clockwise, but this might work just as well both ways. If it's a particuarly nice model it's well worth having it rewired and motor repaired.

Another problem would be finding a treadle cabinet that this Kenmore would fit into. You really have to do some modifications to make it fit.

After looking at the base of the machine, I realize there is no place for the treadle belt to run threw. I got it sewing now, and it is not smelling hot or smoking. Thanks for the input.
