Treadle find today!

This is the treadle I bought today for $100. It is all original with manual, the decals are outstanding, and the cabinet needs a little cleaning. It only has a few nicks here and there. Nothing big though. Needs oiling but all parts move. Has a shuttle bobbin with both face places. I found it on Craigslist in Murrell's Inlet, SC and had to drive from Summerville, SC to pick it up (about 1 1/2 hrs.). I just love it and the SN lists it from 1925. I hope it was a good deal also but love it anyway!!! WooHoo ( It is dirty not pitted. It is very smooth. Just haven't had time to clean it yet...)

It's a real beauty and I'm sure that you'll find it was worth the travel. Thanks for sharing.

I love it, it's beautiful. Makes me want to cry, I have a treadle that had the sphinx decal (it WAS beautiful) and I ruined it trying to clean it. I had to strip it down to bare metal... So sad, be careful cleaning it. Do not soak the head in hot soapy water like I did to clean out the inside. The finish turned all white and wouldn't dry out.

Very pretty!!

Very nice and from what I can see of thee wood cabinet, the wood is gorgeous.
|
You did good, girl!! It's not easy to find one of those with the manual and everything in such good condition. Too many people put them up in the barn and they got really yucky!! Yours is beautiful.
|
What a deal you got, worth the drive even at these gas prices. Beautiful.
|
It's a beauty!! Great price too!
|
She is beautiful. What ya gonna name her????? I was thinking Cleo...for Cleopatra.
|
Very pretty!!!!
|
Lucky machine to have you rescue it. Looks like a beauty and good price too. Worth the drive and enjoy and show pictures when you have her all polished up. Table look looks to be in great shape too.
|
Really pretty!!!!!
|
Very nice, a Sphinx is on my bucket list, but hubby says I have plenty of machines now...I don't know where i'd put it, but I'd find a way. Enjoy.

Thanks for sharing with me. I'm new at the cleaning of old machines. Am studying the threads and videos posted as how to do it... |
Thanks for all the wonderful comments and encouragements! Cleo sounds good to me!
|
Beautiful machine. Enjoy!

What a great find and in such lovely condition, too! I have my grandmother's 1904 model 27 treadle and love to sew on her. It has many miles on it and the condition is far from excellent, but some of my happiest memories are sitting in my grandmother's lap as she sewed on it. I hope you enjoy your new baby!

She is a beauty. Congratulations on such a awesome find.

Pretty machine! Great price, even with the drive! Happy sewing!!

Oh my gosh, it's beautiful. I've never seen one in such lovely condition before. You stole it for $100! :D

I bought it about 4 months ago. Well, I finally got around to cleaning with Briwax and oiling the Singer Sphinx Treadle yesterday. Just wanted to post follow up pics. I just can't believe I was able to get this machine! I searched for one like it for about 3-4 years. It looks like it has hardly been used! Now I have to figure out how to put the belt on to run the treadle. I'll read the threads for instructions. Today I cleaned the chrome parts with very fine steel wool. Didn't dismantle anything yet. Not courageous enough! The fly wheel moves so freely. Can't wait to sew with it!
I feel so blessed! :D |
Such a pretty machine!

Beautiful decals ----love and enjoy it----I enjoyed seeing it.

Beautiful singer...can't believe how good the decals are and what a gift for the price you paid! You lucky, lucky duck. You just wouldn't get one at that price over here in Australia...not in that condition. You've done a lovely job of cleaning her up, I bet she feels so much better....so get her belt on and start treadling! Now, down to the real business, apart from my wanting your treadle (!!!), my husband wants your car! He also wants to know if it is the same model featured in some of the NCIS T.V series? I know, boys will be boys!

I have s sphinx, but in an old case. It was made the year my Grandma was born. I have been trying to find a treadle base for it, but haven't yet. There is a machine listed on our rtc website in Bismarck, but she wants $475 for it. No no.
|
Those decals are in the best condition I ever remember seeing for a Sphinx. And, as someone else noticed, the wood on that cabinet is beautiful. Congratulations and I wish you many happy treadling hours ahead!

I know you love 99Ks: I picked one up two weeks ago at a collectables bazaar for $30, with original books and cover and in near mint condition! In fact there were so many beautiful sewing machines there that I had to stop looking (I bought the 99k and a 66). Dangerous place, I won't go there again (until I've made some space, that is :D). Thanks everyone for the kind coments. Ruby2shoes: That's too funny! I didn't even think about the car when I was taking the pics. It's my husband's Dodge Daytona R/T. He bought it in Alaska and drove it home from there. The car was named by Dodge as "GoMango" and I guess that's where it gets the color. It's really a cool car and is numbered. Has a big Hemi engine and rides like a dream. Fun to drive also and will get up and go! Super fast. Lots of police cars are Dodges. He hardly lets me drive it. Sometimes I have to threaten him...LOL |
You did a wonderful job cleaning her up. Now comes the fun part...learning how to treadle. I bought a treadle a year ago and I am having the best time learning. Enjoy the process!

Update: I checked the serial number on my treadle and the date is: Sept. 23. 1924 and is a model 27. It says 35,000 were made. That makes this machine 89 years old! I'm loving it!! :D

Super nice, they sew great.
