Look what we found when we went Antique shopping today....1908 Singer Treadle Sewing Machine in a box and it had a lot of feet in it also, a bunch of bobbins (different sizes) and measuring tapes.
Had so much fun!!! We decided to leave some other machines at the stores too. We found a really cool sewing table but someone ruined it by putting in a newer electric sewing machine in it and cut holes so that it would fit. I was so bummed because the table was beautiful. Very nice looking machines. Happy Mother's Day!

A day well spent.

Beautiful find!! Happy Mother's Day! :)
It's not a treadle tho, I think I see a knob on the handwheel? Would be a handcrank, and if that's the case I'm insanely jealous!! ;) The decals look a bit like the "Dark Victorian" decals...what's the serial number on her? |
Happy Mothers Day to you ! Great machine
|
I thought that if it had the handwheel, that was considered a treadle? I'm just getting into the older machines. Serial # V495385.
|
Pretty, pretty. Thanks for sharing.

If your machine has a knob on the handwheel, then it's a handcrank...and they're wonderful machines, to be sure!! (And I'm STILL jealous as all get out!) That's a beautiful machine, the decals are wonderfully intact, and I'd almost trade you one of mine for it! |
Wow, what a nice day you had and to get so many nice things. All those bobbins, and such.
|
Love your machine! What a great Mother's Day present.
Look at all the attachments! Including a walking foot. What are the brown long objects in the first picture? I have seen them but have no idea what they are. Actually I have candle sconces made out of reproductions of these. That's where I saw them before. What were they originally made for any one know? |
Jan, I think that's a ruffler foot that you see in the first photo...isn't this machine just to die for? I love it!
Mishnjim will correct me if I'm wrong, I think the long wooden things are for making bobbin lace? Or for weaving... |
What a treasure!! That is definitely more unique than the treadles, and how nice to have the extra bobbins with it. You can be proud of that find.
|
Lovely machine! That shuttle looks alot like the one used for mending commercial fishing nets too.
|
Wow, just beautiful! I'd love to get an old one someday, they are so neat!
|
Happy Mothers Day to YOU!!! She's a beauty!!! :D:D:D
|
Happy Mother's Day to you and she's definitely a keeper!!

You're right Linda...there's no such thing as a portable treadle... :) It's a handcrank....and it's gorgeous! (can you tell I'm still drooling? ) |
Charlee....You are so cracking me up.
Well...I guess my hubby did pretty good finding this yesterday, HUH? I really don't know a lot about the older machines but I was pretty excited that it came with all those feet. Another thing that was funny was he told me, "Well it wasn't FREE like the other gal on your forum site got from Craig's list but it's a good price if you want it". Just Love Him To Death!! |
awesome

I like the machine!!! It is a Model 28K and is a 3/4 machine. The production year is 1908 and it was produced between January and June of that year. 250,000 of them were made on that run alone.
A HUGE production run to say the least for that one, most of the time it is like 50,000 a pop. There were over 5,016,235 of the machines built during the course of the 28K. But like everyone says it is a very nice machine, and the decals are in very good condition!!!! But I think it might be missing the handcrank assembly itself. If you have just a knob on the handwheel then the ratio is 1:1 with the handcrank attachment it was more like 6:1. Billy |
Very, very nice machine! Happy Mother's Day to you. I too was lucky to get a sewing machine for a Mother's Day gift! I bid for it and won! 221 Featherweight! I am so looking fwd to getting it and running my fingers over , under, and around it! And then trying it out! :)

Billy  Okay the ratios are like this, when the handwheel turns on revolution the machine makes one stitch= 1:1 Ratio. With a handcrank the crank turns one revolution and the machine makes 6 stitches= 1:6 ratio. Billy |
Looks to be in good shape. Will you be able to get it sewing?
|
