Update on Having a Chance to Buy A 20's Singer
 

Okay, I bought the machine for $75.00 not the $100 he wanted. As I said to start with it has the Bentwood case and the table it sits down into and a bunch of accessories, some I don't know what they are. Everything is rust free. Best I can figure out it is a 1922 99K. It has everything that the 99-13 has but according to what I read those didn't come out until 1924. It has to be rewired on top and I really don't want to use it any more than I have to because of that and it needs a new belt. The manual with it says it is for the 99 Model. The Model numer is Y376486. If anyone has any information about this let me know please, even if I am wrong about the info I have found out so far ...lol...as I don't know any more than what I have found on the internet.

I am going to take this to the only sewing machine dealer we have around here. He is good at what he does. My mother always got her machines from him and used him for repairs. Too bad I can't do it myself...lol.
I know that it doesn't reverse, only straight stitches. I wanted something that wasn't loaded with plastic parts and gears because it wouldn't last. All I want to be able to do is piece quilt tops.

I don't know what you have. I have a 99K and it back-stitches. Maybe someone will come on here and tell you what you have. Barny

I say it doesn't back stitch because when I tried it out there wasn't a lever or anything to push up to make it back up. All it has is a turnable screw to adjust stitch length. I was just going by what I read on here. Maybe I should judt ask the man I take it to.

Hi, Looks like you have a 128K, 45000 allotted, Nov. 24, 1925. If you get a chance, would love to see a picture.

Thanks Grayhare. I amconfused now because on that same page that same model # matches up with a 99K that was made on February 23, 1922 and 25,000 were alloted. It looks just like the pics of a 99 13 that I have seen different places on the internet. I will post pics when I can get some made. I had seen where the Y models under my serial # were manufactured in Clydebank, Scotland.

Sorry to confuse you, But, yes the chart is a bit confusing, the serial number is in 2 spots??

I am not sure if I am allowed to do this or not. I have looked all over the internet for photos of my machine since I have no wayof taking a photo at this time. I found one on ebay. It is the exact same looking sewing machine, case, table and all. I don't have all the accessories this one has and mine doesn't have a light but everything else looks the same. The manual with mine says mine is a 99 dated 1920. I in no way endorse this one on Ebay nor do I own it or know who does. Here is the link if you want to look.

I am a newbie, but if your machine looks like that 99, I would say it is a 99 then. Here is a picture of my 99.

I'm guessing she meant that the serial number is in two spots on that chart.

When I saw the serial number she posted, it looked short a number. Usually that vintage is 7 digits after a letter....

The book says 99, because it's a 99 possibly the 99-13 you think it is... the 99K came afterward. All of the 99K I have seen have a backtack, yours just a screw to change stitch length.

Edit: Keep in mind that the manual could be from another machine, or reprinted, or even an original printed several years before the manufacture of the machine. A manual though is good for identifying the machine, if it matches the pictures in the book. i.e it looks like grayhare's, and doesn't have 2 slide plates that move front to back instead of left to right. The 128 that was mentioned would have the front and back slide plates.

There are a couple of ways to secure the stitch without reverse.
1 Hold the fabric so it can't be fed with the dogs for a few stitches
2. Change your stitch length to or close to 0 stitches per inch then sew a few stitches
