"Very Very Old" Antique SM

http://jackson.craigslist.org/atq/2688832603.html

I had posted this before but no price has been listed for it. The store has now listed it on CL for sale at a mere $400.00! It would be a great conversation piece, ya think?????

Pretty machine. Good thing it is so far away, because I'd be moaning about not be able to afford it.

It looks like someone made a plexiglas coffin cover because the original was missing. It is probable in the 1880's or 90's. We have an 1852 Grover and Baker treadle with a coffin lid but it is made of Walnut. Encyclopedia of Antique sewing machines lists ours valued between $500 and $1,200. It is nice but I would love to have it with the original lid.

It IS beautiful, but it doesn't say if it even works!! For $400 I'd want it to work. Looks like it might, but they should be a bit more specific. I'm not much for putting machines on display, so I'd want it to work....

OMG It is beautiful!

Looks very similar to my Eldredge chainstitcher. The cabinet looks beautiful, and I wonder if it is original because mine has a side 'flap' extension table. Like someone else said, it's also missing the lid. I paid $100 for mine, and it really is a cool little machine. :) I use it (rarely) for machine embroidery.

Steep price, not THAT rare, and it's not a Singer....it's a Wilcox & Gibbs...
Nice, but not worth that price IMO...decals are gone...coffintop is gone....altho that plexiglass top is something to consider having made for the machines I'd like to display without exposing them to the dust!! :)

Nice looking machine. But don't believe I would pay that much.

I have this same machine but it's a Wilcox & Gibbs like you said. But mine works great and I only paid $75 for it...but that was about 5 years ago. I agree I'd want the wooden top case.
