Any advice for buying toy machines???
|
Miriam, the best information can be found in the book by Glenda Thomas 'Toy and Miniature Sewing Machines'. I have that one. A ton of information. I am finding right now either prices have 'jumped' or it's the Holiday shopping time and buying frenzy..Some people like the complete package, IE..the original box and clamp( if there is one) others just want a non-rusty machine..hope this helps..if ya need more info just let me know..ISMAC is of course always a good starting point.

LOL not to different from buying any vintage machine Miriam! Condition and price plus what you want to do with them. Mine had been for looks but I am now playing with the idea of trying out the Betty and the Gateway. Sadly the Consige is missing a cross bar and will have to be keeped cause shes purdy. I checked on line today and a Gateway, same as mine, but in much worse shape the seller wanted $100. Got mine for $10. at a little crafty antique place a few years back. And I am sure going to do a spa treatment on these too.
|
Few years ago we cleaned out my MIL house. The Cosige was MIL's, the Betty was SIL's and I bought the Gateway. Betty still has the little paper tag on the spool holder. I am sure the box was still in the house, but got lost in a sewer back up a few years before. My MIL saved everything.

That first one is so cheerful! Because of the time of the year, I thought "Christmas" right off! How did you happen to get them if you don't mind my asking?

Hi, I am looking for a manual for my toy Singer, post #38 in this thread. I see them for sale on ebay. Any website that offers a free manual? Thank you
For some reason, a duplicate ebay is added to my post will not let me delete. |

http://www.singerco.com/contact-us (What I wrote:) I have recently acquired a model 20 (toy). It is the handcrank with 7 spokes without the numbering imprinted on it. When I go to the site to get a manual, all it has is the electric one. I'd like a manual, to know what size clamp I need to get and what size (?kind) of needle I need to get. Thank you! |

Another children's treadle for sale! I would love to have it, just costs way too much!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_4946wt_1341 Description: A very rare Princess number 1 child's treadle sewing machine made by the Decker Mfg Co., Detroit, Michigan. It is in very good condition. The machine itself is fully operational and still has it's original floral decoration on the frame. The table has no cracks or warp. The base is undamaged, as is the treadle which moves freely. There is about 50% paint loss on the base. There are a few small paint spots on the table, and some of the finish is missing on its right side. The screw that holds the needle in place has been replaced. It measures 31" tall by 22 5/8" wide by 11 1/2" deep. |
WOW... would love to get that one!!!
|
just a bit pricy for a toy don't you think???

Ok here is my second Toy Sewing Machine. She is a Damascus I bought today off of Craigslist for $30. She is missing her needle and the screw that holds the needle in. She was made my National Sewing Machine Company at the Belvedere factory in Illinois around 1920. She was owned by the Grandmother of the person who sold her to me. Grandmother used her to make doll clothes when she was a little girl, which gives us her approximate age!
I put her next to the normal sized Pfaff just to give you an idea of her size! Nancy |
So cute! Are you going to make a doll dress to have with it?

Well I couldn't resist getting this little guy. Yes, I said guy. He came with a nice little case, clamp, package of needles (YIPPIE!!!) and the smallest spools of thread I have ever seen. All but one of the four spools is still wrapped in plastic. It is electric and runs on two "D" size batteries. The base is 6" wide.

He sure is handsome, Grant. I guess little brother wasn't much of a sewer because he doesn't look like he was ever used.
|
that's too cool! I am assuming it is a looper/chainstitcher... I would love to see pics of the stitching.
