Actually I could use some of those levitating sewing machines. I have filled the garage, and the house, even my DD's house. I never considered the ceiling and rafters. :D

a professional 188U. it is pretty in an odd way! Is that price as expensive as it seems? http://charlotte.craigslist.org/for/3371388530.html and here is a japan made one, precision? $75 http://charlotte.craigslist.org/atq/3370613656.html this one intrigues me -- clearly a vintage kenmore! no cabinet but a case for $50. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/for/3362512692.html and last, for smoky giggles. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/atq/3361460581.html |

Probably region dependent. Around here I'd say it was a little high - GW tends to have them from $10 to $40 - but not ridiculously so. OTOH the Whites have a very good reputation so if you're comparing it to new machines it's a no brainer.
