Vintage Greist Overcaster #2 Style
 

I came across a vintage Greist Automatic Overcaster Style#2. Does anyone know what machines this fits? I think an image attached...

I'm guessing you do not have the manual for it. It looks like it would fit a vintage White. I have vintage Greist Decorative Zigzagger attachment that is Style #1 which is for a low shank machine. The manual has three types (Styles). The #2 is for round bars, but the knob needs to be removed to attach the attachment.

This is the page from the buttonhole attachment for a White machines that have the top clamp, like the 11, 43, 77 and FR.

I think that it might work with any of the top clamp machines as shown at http://ismacs.net/needle_and_shank/shank.html

HI- thanks for the reply. This hadn't anything to do with the pic you sent about a buttonholer It's only an overcaster Style #2, not a #1. It could be for a white but I'm not finding any info online about that in any direction. no, no manual and a search for that leads no where, even on ISMACS where I tried prior to writing here.
The adaptor clamp shown on your buttonholer is like the Overcaster. That is different than the Style #1 as best I can see. I'l try it on my White 77.
Wish I could find a manual or even a PDF for it!

Yes, that is what I was trying to show.

It probably works similarly to a buttonholer or zigzagger, where the 'fork' goes over the needle bar. There are some pictures of how to feed the material through the attachment at

Be sure to hold the threads behind the attachment.

Remember that you have to take the knob off the White.

Patent info is very interesting and FULL! thanks for showing. I was thinking of searching for it, yet no patent # on the box or overcaster.

The knob (aka presser foot holder) that needs to be removed is on the machine, not the attachment. It is the knob where you put the presser foot.

There is a knob to turn to tighten up the foot, but there is a screw that is on the side that if you loosen that, the turn knob can be removed and you will have a round presser foot bar visible. Then you can put the attachment on the bar. Yes, this is for the buttonholer, but it applies to the overcaster as well. You do not need to cover the feed dogs for the overcaster.
