Vintage or just old

I always read this forum more amused than interested. I failed to see the fascination with old sewing machines even though I have my mothers old Singer Treadle, which I learned to sew on in the garage.

2 weeks ago I was helping my sister clean out her father in laws home and found this little girl in a closet long forgotten. Since I am the only sewer in the family, my sister sent her home with me.

Isn't she lovely? I think I'll pull mama's machine out of the garage now.......

It's amazing how good these older machines are. They can be ignored for years and still look good. Hope it sews as good as it looks.

Yep, one more machine and it is an addiction. We all have it. It's so fun.

That looks like a Domestic 153. It was made by White. There should be a tag under the hand wheel with the model number. If it ends with MG it has a lightweight magnesium body.
It should be a good solid machine. I had the White version.

oooh.... this just begs the question. pics of the treadle? lol

Is that machine real light weight? BTW it might run backwards...

I forgot to mention that. The top of the hand wheel does spin away from you on those. I think all the old Whites up until they started importing their machines from Japan spin opposite of Singer and most other brands out there.

Aren't you the lucky one! I didn't even get my mother's machine and I am the only sewer in the family. My sister HAD to sell it in the Estate Auction and I couldn't be there.

Roxanne its a beauty, glad you have it.

Thanks everyone. I haven't had time to look up any info yet on this one, but I do know that she was purchased in the mid to late fifties when the owner was stationed in Germany during service. Knowing the family as I do, they probably bought it at the PX.

The old treadle is in really, really bad shape as my mother had moved it out into her garage years before I got it.
