My family went antiquing today and came home with this darling. The only problem now is that I have no information on it at all. I know that several of you collect vintage and antique machines and am hoping that someone can date this one for me or at least tell me how to go about it. We've looked at every inch, nook and cranny....there is no writing except the one silver plate that just lists numbers. Any help out there?
Edit: I forgot to say it's got a hand crank but there are holes and hardware to put it on a treadle table. Also uses spindles (I think that's the word) instead of bobbins. What a treasure. I love those old machines.
Okay I am going to have to do some serious research on this one but I am leaning on it being a German machine. It is a design like the Singer 12 but it has a lot of German influence. There were lots of machine makers that copied the Singer design both here in the States and overseas so it could really be anything but I know of a few German makers that used this exact design and were badged for other folks. But it is a beautiful machine and the case is absolutely gorgeous!

I agree Billy beautiful machine!!
That machine and case are totally gorgeous! What a treasure!
WOW!!!! That is absolutely gorgeous!!! I hope you can find out more information about it.
If you would like to clean up the machine you can rub sewing machine oil around, with your fingers, let it sit, and then gently wipe it off with a soft rag or cotton balls. |
Quite a beauty. Will you let us know how much was paid for it?
What a beauty!!! :)
looks something like the paragon machine i have... but like the new home as well............. hmmmmmmm
Thanks everyone, especially Billy and Charlee, for your help and answers.
Before telling you how much I paid, tell me how much you think it's worth. (Actually, my husband, who is the one who made the purchase as a surprise to me, is curious about whether he overpaid. Of course, my answer is that it couldn't have been too much.....just look at that baby!) |
No clue what its worth, but it sure is pretty! What a great husband!
If you are happy, then he didn't overpay. It is obviously something special since no one has been able to identify it.
Its beautiful!
Awesome machine.
That is a beautiful machine. You are so lucky. It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It is certainly above my buying ability for machines.
The case has wonderful woodwork too. I look forward to learning of the pedigree. |
That is truly a very beautiful machine, and the case is wonderful! I wish they made great machines like that now, but then we probably couldn't afford them if they did!!
