Vintage Minnesota sewing treadle machine
 

Hello, Everyone, I'm a newbie here, just joined you today and already I have questions. My nephew bought an old Minnesota treadle sewing machine. I can muddle my way along my modern Brother one and kind of create some type of article to wear, but I have very little idea how to begin to work these vintage types.
Where is serial # and model #? I've already found a manual and attachments but we have no cabinet or treadle for it. Well also need a belt from treadle to hand wheel. Where can I look? Help me ?!!??

I don't know much, but will share what I have heard. Others will probably chime in after the holiday.

Minnesota is the name that Sears used on their machines. The machines were made by other companies. I don't know enough to tell you who made your machine. A photo would probably help others identify the maker.

Once you identify the maker, you can look for both a Minnesota and "Other Brand Name" machine, which will widen your chances of finding one.

You're most likely to find the cabinet and irons at an estate sale, Craigslist, Offerup, Facebook Marketplace or some similar local venue. The irons are heavy and cost a lot to ship and they are cast iron, which are likely to get broken when shipped because they get dropped.

If you don't get a response here in a couple of days, try VSS. The collectors of really old machines seem to post there more often. You will still need to post a photo, so they can identify the original manufacturer.

Many varieties of Minnesotans, This one of mine has leaf tension and two slides showing for the vibrating ( or long) shuttles.

Treadle to handwheel belts can be purchased at many local sewing centers. You will, however have to cut it an connect it for your own machine. That 's a bit of a trick.

Pretty sure Singer bases will not work for Minnesotas.
