My Egyptian Lotus 66-1 (back clamping) was made in 1908, according to the serial number listed on Singer's website. It also shows other runs of 66's in 1908, but I have no idea if they are 66-1's or not... probably so. So there's an error somewhere: Either the ISMACS site or Singer's records.

I found that to be the same for me too. My Singer 15-90 works so much nicer for free motion quilting. When I had my 66-1 in treadle, I tried it for free motion but that didn't work out too well. So, I just used it for straight line quilting. Made a cute baby quilt with that machine for my niece. Now that I have the 201 in treadle, that is the machine I use for straight line quilting and piecing.

My FMQ is really crappy, so it certainly isn't something I'm going to be playing with on anything larger than a baby quilt at this point. I don't know what a 15 is. I could probably google them. I am very interested in straight line quilting and that was the sole purpose of looking for a bigger machine.

I go and pick her up on Tuesday. I could NOT resist stopping in today to take some pictures of her. The shop even gave me the manual. She is a 66-16. Her serial # is AL887630. The machine shop had a book on singers and the serial number looks like it was manufactured in 1954. I don't know any of the online resources to research that.

Here she is. I'm so excited! I have an appointment on Tuesday for my lessons. I have 2 1/2 hours after work before I have to pick up the kids from school. He asked me to make a list of the things I want to learn, and if anything isn't already on the list of things he teaches every new person, he'll teach me those too. I can hardly contain myself!

Alaskasunshine, Your MN is B as in eautiful! Not a sister to mine, but a cousin. Mine is a MN New A. When I get project completed, I'll take a pix and share. Right now my electric semi-vintage (30yrs old) is laying on top of my MN cabinet and I'm doing a special project for our son and d-in-law for the new baby (diaper wipes from Ts).

My free motion quilting is still at the "edgy"stage, innovative stage. I find that I'm better off with sharp points than curves. I have done a quilt with squiggles and loops, but I find that I like the look of the straight line quilts more.

There are some young gals out there making quilts and selling them that only do straight line quilting. It has a very clean look which I like.

I cannot locate the serial number for my Minnesota New Model A vintage sewing machine. I am looking for the manual so I can see if I oiled it properly and also need to figure out how to load the shuttle (now that I took it out to oil the machine). Bobbin case cover says patented Aug 10, 1920 if that helps answer my Q.

New Grams has been tasked with sewing baby wipes from T-shirts and I haven't sewed in ages. Really want to get back into sewing and am opting for the treadle vs my 1981 MWards machine ASA I get leather belt. I too am trying to get green here.
