Today I got my socks blessed off! One of the machines I was wanting to collect was the Singer 201. I answered a CL ad for a vintage machine, owner didn't know what model... When I met her at the storage unit to look, it was a 201!! And she took $60 for it! The cabinet is a very nice treadle cabinet, obviously not the original one for the machine, as it is electric. The owner said it was her grandmothers and had been converted to electric from a treadle. This isn't true, tho. The machine has a potted motor, smooth handwheel, and the big cord plug built in on the side. It was built electric. I assume the owner knew nothing about the machine and was confused. Lucky for me she just wanted to get rid of it! She said her grandmother was "on it all the time" and loved to sew, but she died a few years back. I asked what the grandma's name had been, and was told, "Flora". I was the one who thought people who named their machines were silly, but I'm finding myself wanting to call this machine "Flora"!
