Wacky quilt finished

What did you use for the backing? Great looking quilt. Beautiful. Hope you've been able to hit some of the quilt shops in the area. I know you've been busy. Seems like it takes forever to get settled.

We used flannel.

Haven't gotten to the quilt shops yet. We're still playing catch up.

Seems like the cat quilting pattern is purrfect for this wonderful quilt! Certainly the cats love it. Must have been fun moving with cats. They want to inspect everything going and unpacking. Hope you will soon be able to get a chance to sew again. Moving is the pits that's for sure.

Joe, awesome that you both worked on it! It looks wonderful, I bet it brightens up the room.

Joe, it's just a regular binding put on by machine. It's just lots and lots of experience and a machine (35 yr old Viking 990) that evenly feeds just about anything without the need of a walking foot. I've done a lot of sewing on home decorating (upholstery, window treatments) so have done a lot of binding and pipping before I even started with quilts.

But I did recently learn the trick to NOT press the binding in half, and that helped to reduce the tendency for it to want to crawl out from under the foot when topstitching it down. Also, use the first seam to line up the fabric on teh front side, just a fraction of an inch past so you end up sewing almost on top of it with the second seam, so it ends up "int the ditch" as much as possible on the back side.
