Hello everyone, I am looking for an older Singer or similar all-metal machine. I am still fairly new to sewing and my very basic machine died on me. Hubby and I are tight on money so hoping to find a good used machine that will last and last. I heard the Singer models 301, 328, 401, 403, 500a, Slant-O-Matic, Rocketeer, etc are very good workhorse types. I am willing to pay for shipping and then some for the machine as well, but our budget is pretty limited. Thank you for your time.

Ashley, I would suggest Ebay or Craig's list.

If you buy locally you can get a machine you listed in the $20-$100 range. Or put an ad in your local freecycle?

Thank you ladies! I have had no luck locally, tried thrift stores, Craigslist, freecycle, etc. I am looking on Ebay as well.

I purchased mine from a dealer more than 30 years ago. It was a trade-in. If you have any dealers in your area you might want to check with them.

Here's a 301 (it's the one I have) with a BIN. This one comes with a case. Mine didn't, but I wanted to sew on it, not keep it in the case

Here is the 328K I PMed you about. I have not had a chance to do anything with it yet but it will be fully serviced, cleaned and polished ready to go when it arrives at your doorstep.

Thanks so much Billy, PMed you again!

Ann L 02-10-2011 01:45 PM

Yeah Billy. So glad you could help her. Our Hospice has a store, like a good will, and they had a couple in there for $25 with the cabinets. They also had a couple of portable ones as well but to me they were asking too much for them. As they say "You're a good man Charlie Brown."

You should try thrift stores or church sale.
