What could be worse than a rusted Singer model 66? A Singer model 66 that has been antiqued! Thats what! Someone has taken a beautiful Lotus blossom Singer 66 and sprayed lacker all over it. I got it for a good price but what a headache its going to be to get is sewing. serial number B908241

Looks as though it was sprayed with rust first! I have a very similar machine that didn't look quite that bad, but once I cleaned up the insides it has turned out to be the smoothest spinning machine I have.

pic #2 concerns me the most. It that hand wheel askew?
. It should be perpendicular to the bed.

More rusted up 66s and others. Is that worse?

Some interior descrators use old, rusty things as decorative items. That's who probably sprayed it with lacquer. Watch that American Picker's show -- they go ga-ga over old, beat-up, rusty advertising signs. Old, beat-up, rusty anything, as a matter of fact. I can't imagine having something like that hanging on my wall and wonder who does.

I finally got the needle plate off. Its not pretty.

yep, it's pretty ugly now, but you can save it.

I like to use and offfset screwdriver or a pocketknife with a screwdriver blade half way out for the back presserfoot screw. ( late your disassembly. I know)

Drastic measures. I think we are going to need a bigger bucket.

I hope that "very good price" wasn't more than $5. It apparently sat out in the rain and collected water everywhere, such as the bobbin area. What a brave person you are to tackle this.
