What kind of needle is this?

Hello all,

While cleaning out the drawers on my 1926 Singer 66 treadle that I acquired down in New Orleans last week, I found this weird needle. There are no names or markings and its adjustable. Anyone have any clue as to what it is and how to use it?

there for a punch rug type thing. I've got quite an assortment of them.

Thanks Cathy,

I though I had a rare find and thought about listing it on the net for $250,000.00. That would make it a great accessory for that $250,000.00 treadle I saw else ware.:)

Yep. That's what I was thinking. Latch hook rug needles.

Needle punch - this one would probably be for fine yarn punched through a light weight cotton base; there are more heavy duty ones for rug yarn punched through burlap. My grandmother showed me how to do it back in the 60's. I hate to admit I still have a rug on a frame I have yet to finish (from 1973) not much work left to do on it, but need to find rug yarn to match..... :( . If I ever get working on it again, I'll have to add it to my blog for historic value :)
