it's a 99.

It looks like the serial number is probably AC508745 which would mean the serial number was allocated in 1929. It looks similar to my 1928 model 99-13. I believe that originally it had a knee lever that would be inserted into the hole on the right side of the base where the wire for the foot controller is now located.

Looks like a 99 to me as well. Seems like it has some issues so I'd offer less than asking - probably $20-25.

I always get a kick out of sellers that think an "Electric from the factory" machine was made in the 1910's. Singer switched to base plug mounted on the machine around 1928/1929. The ones with the knee lever had the control (hidden in the base compartment) hardwired to the machine, and used the single lead plug in. The good part, you could use the double lead with a foot pedal also. I'm looking for one like this to go with my earlier knee control 99. Then I want to get the even earlier one that has a cord that screws into a light bulb outlet - that is the earliest style (before plug in outlets were common in homes).

I wouldn't let the lack of knee controller be a deal breaker. IMO it's still a decent price even with having to clean up the wiring. The case looks like it's in decent condition, the missing slide plate will add another $5-10 to the final cost but at least you can still get them. But then I have a serious weakness for 99s and other 3/4 size machines. OurWorkBench's guess looks pretty close to right on the age to me too. I was given a very similar one from that time frame by Cari here.
