What model is it?

I found this on an oddball auction site. It ends today at 6:30 pm. No one has bid on it, although many have looked. The "made in Great Britain" may be the problem. I'm such a rookie on machines that I don't have a clue if it's a good buy or not. I don't even know if the English manufacture is a problem. I looked at Sandman and either it's down or I am too dumb to use it. The serial number is EF 051305. It looks like a model 15, but I'm not sure enough of that to buy it.

They want $60.00 for it. Leave it or buy it?

I'm no expert, but the tension dial being on the front makes me think its a 15-91. If it is and it's in a nice cabinet, 60.00 is not bad. It really depends on if its worth it to you.

It's not a 15-91 because it does not have a potted motor - so that makes it a 15-90. Not that it's a big deal, as they are the same basic machine.

With that cabinet, $60 is a very good deal.

This model (without the potted motor) is my favorite FMQ machine (well, not counting my HQ long arm).

I like the ones without the potted motor just fine. They don't turn up as often as the potted. Nice desk.

See I told you I wasn't an expert, lol. But I did learn something!

I know little about old machines, but the cabinet looks like the one that my Mom had, with a lighter color finish. It's a classy cabinet. I would worry about two things, though. First the left side of the cabinet top seems to lean a bit, so it may need to have some work done on the hinges. Secondly, I'd ask whether the cord has been converted to the American standard.

I wouldn't worry about the motor - I suspect this is one of the many machines that was manufactured in Great Britain, then shipped to Canada where a motor was added. This was done to reduce the import tariffs. I would be very surprised if it didn't already run on 120V. (I suspect this is why potted motor machines are far less common in Canada.)

It went for $65.00. It took 24 hours for your registration to be confirmed, so I didn't get to bid on it.

Darn!

Aw, shucks!

Don't worry bkay, those machines and cabinets come up pretty regularly in that price range so you'll have another chance.
