What Pattern cams do I need? What can I substitute?

Hello,
I recently bought a Dressmaker Model S-2402. After working on it I realized it needed cams. I looked on line and there is a video of one and a picture of the cams needed. It takes 30 for the set. I found some for the same Model number and ordered them they came off of a Dressmaker S-2402. Here is a picture of the machine, and I hope I can post a picture of the cams that are wrong and the cam hole they go in. The cams I have, have a slot in them. the ones I need should have a hole for the pin. The disc they sit on is a little over an inch across. I hope someone here can steer me in the right direction! Thanks, Ethel |
I'm confused. The cams I see pictured have a round indent, not a slot. Are the ones in the photo what you need or the wrong ones?

Looks like these may be the cams you need. (Not my auction)

The ones pictured are the wrong ones. They don't fit and they don't match the stitch patterns on the front of the machine. Thanks, Mark for your input but it needs to be a set of 30. The ones in the auction don't match the stitch patterns.

I have a set, minus one, that "might" fit. Here is a couple pics of them.
There was 30 originally, the missing one was gone when we got the set. The shaft hole is about a 1/2". If you are interested in these PM me and I can do some more measuring. Joe |
Thanks Joe, I will be in touch.
Thanks to all of you on this board. I really enjoy reading it everyday. |
Nopah, I would consider buying that set of cams from you as I think theyd fit Deluxe Princess. Got some courtedy of Miriam but the hole was too large and I made a klugey adapter bushing. It kind of works, but the right cams would work better. I dont hVe any like you need, unfortunately.

It's a pain trying to find the right cams. I wish the manufacturers had been more clear about which accessories go with which machines.
I'm about 80% sure I know which cams go with my Kenmore Model 84, but I'm going mainly on the shape and color of the box they come in, and that doesn't strike me as very reliable. Also, for some reason the cams that I think are compatible seem to be really expensive on ebay when compared to cam sets for other machines. I keep looking, but there's no way I'm spending $40 on some cams only to find out they are the wrong ones. Then I look at the stitches that the cams can do, and wonder whether I really need them anyway. I suppose I could relist them if they are wrong, but still. |

Mlmack, it was exactly that video that showed me what the box should look like!
Trouble is, I have no way of knowing if that box was used to house cams for other models of machine. Injection molds are expensive, and were probably even more expensive back then. It would make sense to use the same box for as long as possible. Also, it's hard to tell by comparing the video to ebay photos of cams whether they are the same. To my untrained eye, one black plastic cam pretty much looks the same as any other black plastic cam! |
