What would you do with this?

Ok, my daughter in-law found this old machine (well this is not the actual machine, just a picture of one like it). Anyway, the one she found someone store the case up trying to open it without the key, so the case is busted on the side, (I guess liquid nail would hold it back together). Anyway all the cords are frayed and I doubt very seriously if it would ever work. So I had this crazy thought of just throwing away the case, polishing up the machine and get replacement stickers for it and displaying it in my sewing room as decoration. What would you do with it?? Throw it out??

I don't know about the case, but the machine should be able to be rewired pretty easily.

I definitely wouldn't throw it out.

Give it to someone who has the time and know how to get it running again if you don't want it. Throw it out??????? Yikes. There are probably some board members near you that would gladly take it off your hands.

Are you Crazy? Fix that machine up, there are all kinds of info on this site that will help you repair, shine and reglue the case. I got one that was in terrible shape and now it has a second life as a hand crank that I teach kids how to sew on it. I also learned that I LIKE to get my hands dirty, like working on an itty bitty car.

I'll take the case and the machine if you're gonna throw it away. The wiring is an easy fix, the case maybe too.

All pieces intact, my bet is it will sew the way it is. Make it sew, then use as display if you'd like.

All it needs is some TLC and you would have a beautiful vintage machine. Love the case. I have 1 just like it. it is so pretty when all cleaned up.

I'm sorry, I definitely WOULDN'T throw it away.

Is that a blue badge???

Sheluma 09-23-2013 12:10 PM

Those locks open easily with a screwdriver. Too bad someone broke it. The one in the picture looks like a not-too-common machine. 127 with crinkle finish. The badge could be centennial or maybe just post-centennial. I'm sure yours could be repaired, including the case. It would be a crime to throw it out. At least offer it to someone who will give it the love it needs.
