Hey folks,

I made a stop at Cathy's this weekend and she had just found these beauties.

I am working out a deal for one, but whatever the deal works out to be, one component is that "I" get to clean them both. hehe

So, here they are. Once "as is" and one in process of cleaning.

the underside is pretty cool as well, NOTE the brass "insert" for the WW8 Glass presser foot holder!

The company name stamp.

Wow. Steve, you have done a stunning job. Stunning.

Does it function well?

costumegirl 08-19-2013 08:06 PM

What a difference!

SteveH 08-19-2013 08:35 PM

my WW8 is not up and running right now  si I do not know, but it moves very smooth and easy. the adjuster adjusts just fine.

Once again I sit in awe of the craftsmanship of our forebearers

All i did was supply Brasso, 0000 steel wool, elbow grease

Those are very interesting pieces of equipment. A bit older than those I have. You did a nice job in cleaning them up.

Joe

I am again amazed at your abilities and skills Steve.

quiltingloulou 08-20-2013 05:10 AM

If you want a job, you can come and clean all my silverware and brass!! You have done a brilliant job. Good on ya.

HA! you make it so I can go there and I'd be glad to!!!!

girliegirl 08-20-2013 02:55 PM

so you ever use a wire wheel on anything?

SteveH 08-20-2013 03:48 PM

of course I do. I even used it a little bit on this for a tough stain spot, but it is a good way to thrash brass.

girliegirl 08-20-2013 04:44 PM

I use only when needed... but I does save a lot of stuff...

The wire-wheel was not needed at all this time.

Ok, so confession time. I have been using a can of Brasso. Note :can:

I finally used up the last of my 20+ year old can of Brasso and had to breakdown and go get more. It is now in plastic squeeze bottle (I like it) and boy howdy did it make a difference. I had not realize how "faded" my Brasso was until I used fresh stuff.

And since the second one is is slightly better condition, we can read the bottom line now...
"Family use only"

Caroline S 08-21-2013 08:40 AM

OMG Steve, my Brasso is also in a metal can. :D Perhaps it is time to purchase some new stuff.

chris_quilts 08-21-2013 11:43 AM

Been so long since I used Brasso, I didn't realized they had "gone plastic". I do have a grody faceplate or 2 to clean and I've seen the recommend for Brasso on it. Any opinions good or bad??

Chris

SteveH 08-21-2013 12:02 PM

I cannot see a single reason not to so far....

the second WW8 Ruffler here was cleaned with Brasso and an old toothbrush, followed by a Dawn and water rinse.

chris_quilts 08-21-2013 03:11 PM

Why the Dawn and water rinse afterwards? Am curious because I never heard that when I used to polish my brass.

SteveH 08-21-2013 03:22 PM

I just do not like leaving potential residue on a device that fabric will slide through, so I use Dawn dishwashing liquid (great grease cutter) to clean things up.

chris_quilts 08-21-2013 04:10 PM

That is interesting. Thanks for explaining and I wouldn't have thought about a residue left to be transferred to the fabric.

SteveH 08-21-2013 06:10 PM

funny, but I learned that when selling armor. If you do not clean it after making it, it will gross up their padding and clothes...

Cecilia S. 08-22-2013 03:36 AM

Do I get points for having guessed "Family" use only? :-)

SteveH 08-22-2013 07:20 AM

How about 5 thumbs up!

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Cecilia S. 08-22-2013 08:13 AM

How about 5 golden decals to put on an old singer which I will be giving the spa treatment soon? :-)
