Where to find tiny Singer screw
 

I know this is a long shot, but I hate to waste vintage parts. My 403A is missing a tiny screw. It's one of the two on the bobbin case positioning bracket. I haven't got the machine sewing yet (instead I've been taking it apart) but I assume it won't work well without this screw, right?

Any ideas of where to find a replacement screw? And/or find out what size it is?

At the shop, we have a bin full of loose screws that we let customers search through to find what they need. Maybe your local repair shop would have a similar bin.

A good old fashioned hardware store has a shocking array of screws and other little bits. And they'll help you so you don't have to look through it all.

Long shot, but if similar enough, maybe it's something you could get from the Singer Featherweight Shop? https://singer-featherweight.com/

It's my understanding that sewing machine screws are not threaded to the modern standards. So generally speaking, you can't replace a sewing machine screw with a screw from the hardware store. (I could be mistaken.)

My local sewing machine repair shop has a cabinet full of screws, too. I think the charged me $3.00 for one I needed. It was well worth the price. They found the screw for me, though.

Bkay, thanks -- I did not know that! I love all the new stuff I learn on this board.

My local SM repair shop is closed today, so I'm going tomorrow. Fingers crossed I'll find the right screw and won't have to buy a new part.

Success! I went to my local repair shop and the guy not only found the right screw, when I asked "How much?" he said "Nothing". Yay! Onward with the project.
