I decided on a color, Glossy Elephant grey. So Soonish I will have a "White Elephant" ... and I am not sure why.

Classy and probably more forgiving.

That will look very nice....can't wait to see the finished project.

Nothing wrong with a nice grey. A very popular color with vintage woodworking and metal working machines. :)
Keep us posted on your progress. Rodney |
I like your choice of color. Another interesting view here of the same endcap for which you sent pictures, is that right? Thank you again for sending them. I'll be anxious to watch how it progresses.

Yes that is the same end cap. This completely stripped of all parts. Hopefully I get to the point of putting it back together before I forget where everything goes.

I don't rely on memory. In my case that would be a terrible mistake.
Take plenty of pictures as you go (and post them here) :). Bag sub-assemblies together and label them when you can. The more you can keep sub-assemblies together as you take things apart, the easier it will be to put it all back together. I've rebuilt several wood working machines and it's worked pretty well for me. I have yet to completely disassemble a sewing machine though. Alcohol works well for dissolving old sewing machine oil and is less dangerous than many other solvents. You just can't get it around any shellac you want to keep. Rubbing alcohol may be cheaper than denatured alcohol and works well. Rodney |

hmmm, so this is not the recommended way to store removed sewing machine parts? Just remove them and drop them in the can ?
